Wanting A Headtube And Downtube

Does anyone want to donate (I'll pay postage) to me either a headtube for a 1 1/8th inch headset and/or a BB shell for a normal mtb BB.

So if you have any old frames, providing that they are steel, get out your hacksaws and grinders and whack some tubes in the post.

If you can't do that, maybe you could tell me the inside diameter of a headtube and a BB shell?

Well a headtube's gunna be 1 1/8" isn't it :P

1 1/8 = 28.575mm

Nope, an 1 1/8 inch headtube is not a tube with such a diameter, it's for steerer with 1 1/8 inch diameter. So this headtube obviously has to be bigger.

My ck headset manual says the required headtube bore diameter is 33,9mm (it's the inner diameter at places where headset cups are pressed in).

Haha knew I was being too clever for my own good, I've just realised my old XC frame (orange and black Univega oh yeeaaaaaah) is in the skip so I'll go see if I can nick my Dad's dail caliper and measure the BB diameter for you. :)

The bottom bracket thread is 1.37" x 24 t.p.i, as for the bore i am unsure, but if you are planning on making your own bb shell , it will be hard work due to having a left hand thread and the right hand thread, also theres a couple of ways of doing it, if i was to do it, i would bore the material to the correct size then i would screw cut the threads left hand and right hand......... the other option is to tap it, however, the taps that are readily available are for only cleaning threads, to get a tap that would cut material from scratch in that size would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack, however, like you said your best option is to get a frame and chop off the bb and headtube then just throw them in a lathe to clean off all the old weld and shite on the outer diameters
