Should I Build Or Buy A Full Bike?

Right my mam just said she would buy me a new bike in september well sort of she said she'd pay £200 towards it.I have about £90,so about £300 to spend on a 'new' second hand bike.

Right anyway ive been thinking for a while now and i think im going to go for a T-pro,i know there dead popular but i havent really seen one that i would like more in my price range so i think its right for me.

Anyway the main point of the post is do you think i should buy a second hand frame and build it up or should i just buy a standard one and upgrade it gradually.

I really dont know what to do.What do you guys think?I have a couple of questions aswell.

1)Will it cost more or less to build a bike than, buy a full one and put standard parts on it?

2)Should i wait 'til i have more money and buy a good spec one?

Thanks

Ive made it easier to read the questions :- Sorry about that i couldnt even understand it my self

More - if i understand your wording correctly read it 5 times and i still dont get it

2)Should i wait 'til i have more money and buy a decent spec one?

Why wouldnt you buy a cheep t-pro off here 2nd hand you get better value for money £300 will get you a middle / average spec'ed bike

Hi, I just read you're profile and i see that you have a da bomb, Will you still have that in September? If so i would by a t-pro frame then just slowly upgrade. Then you will always have a decent bike to ride.

Allen.

Yeh thats what i was thinking.

jared,

best thing to do is to upgrade all the components on the frame you have, (it wont go snap in a hurry) then eventually when you have all the components how you want them, crank forks stem etc then get yourself a new frame, yeh it will cost more in the long run but you will get a bike specificly made for you.

I agree as I once owned a da bomb , only thing is that by the time youve spent money buying parts for the da bomb to put on the tpro later you will probably start breaking them. Also the da bomb is 20" rear wheel if im not mistaken so you couldnt get very far upgrading parts.

2nd hand is the way foreward and I also have a frame set for sale by coincidence :P

Yeh i seen that earlier.I would really like this but i cant get it right now as i dont have the money to spend. But yeh if it was september or august or something i would have bought it.If miraculously you still have it then ill take it off your hands, but the chances are very slim. (that you still have it)

I had the same dilemma a while back. the da bomb wasn't good enough anymore and it was about £300-£350 to get it up to a reasonable spec - not really worth it when i could get a t-pro with a front disk for £500 new.

I say just buy a complete t-pro and then get some new forks when you've saved up. the frame's plenty good enough and the components are sound. by thime you've got yor dabomb up to a comparable spec you could have bought a t-pro and got yourself a decent frame into the bargain

Mines 20".But you can get special adapters and stuff for a da bomb but its a waste of time. But they come 20" standard

well tell you what. if your riding down redcar on friday with us lot, if you come down early i will try and stick a 19" on it for you.

Hi jared. When i got my first ever trials bike, i built it up myself. whether or not the price has gone up now or not i don't know but i kitted mine out with fully basic onza parts(apart from the wheelset, chain and bb), and 2 magura's off of ebay for around £30 each somehow. Just try your best to build one id say because at least then, its a sort of "one-off" jobbie ain't it? (Y)
