Because having a smooth rim in the wet can be .On the otherhand grinding up and using plazmatic pads will give you a greater result.Cheers joe (hope this helps you decide)

mat hudson
grind+koxx bloxx or an avid front disk.
MaXsteri
Personally i wouldn't grind the front as i like a bit of modulation, if thats possible with maguras I run heatsink blues on an unground rim on the front and it does the job for me, but i wouldn't imagine they hold any better than your current pads, and in the wet forget it. Maybe try some of the softer Koxx Bloxx before resorting to a grind
planet x alan
funnily enough i am using kool stops on a smooth rim, modulates very well and locks ok in the wet

cvtrial
Personally i wouldn't grind the front as i like a bit of modulation, if thats possible with maguras I believe that's not possible since if you're riding with grind, there are no modulation, if you're riding no grind, there's to much modulation, and you'll never stop! To get much modulation and you still want to have a great stop, buy a disk brake (hydraulic)!!!
