Don't worry matt, the one up there has split where the wear line was. You're gonna have pants grinds now too

the company that makes the hog, koxx, viz, holm rims is called hsin chuan. i have dealt with them and they will make the rim in a variety of widths, in a variety of drillings, including hole shape, with/without brake line indicator, and with anodizing or powder coating (such as vincent's dayglo and white rims). in the end, it is the same damn alloy pushed through a different die and with a different drill bit in. they are all the same.

...beat me to it! But if you were to buy any i would go for a koxx rim, purely because they are the easiest to get hold of. Plus the 06 koxx rims have thicker sidewalls and slightly smaller holes for better strength and to withstand more grinds. (Y)

Cheers,

Joe.

Holy cow, they make a 100mm wide rim. :o

I dont beleive they even sell the hog with the hedgehogs hehe.

Oh and the new viz rims, hah, it must be pretty easy to be a bike company :P

something tells me your 3rd hand source is sketchy.

in the end, the dx-32 is the only one made of 7075, with the exception of maybe the echos. that's what's going to last.

My source, is Roger Davies, who is one of the best unicycle racers, thus he knows Kris Holm himself personally and rides with him, chats with him and such... So I think that Kris Holm himself will know that his rims are different to that of Viz/Koxx/Hog. Also, someone else did say that the Kris Holm rim holds grinds well, which the Koxx/Hog/Viz do not? so that suggests the KH rim is made of a different alloy.

DX32s I'm afraid can't take as much beating as Kris Holm rims can, unstablebutable has flatspotted DX32 to buggery in not such a long time, yet his Kris Holm is fine, and he's been using the Kh rim for longer than he did with DX32.

QUOTE from Loosemoose:

Kris has had a lot of trouble with people splitting rims along the breaking surface due to the wear indicators providing a weak spot, that the repetitive twisting would make these rims basically burst along that seam. Since the 2005 model KH Trials Uni was released he's supplied them without the wear indicator to improve rim sturdiness.

The following is a quote from a thread on the Unicyclist Community Forums, about the possible upgrades to KH unicycles for the 06 model year:

"The groove is common on bike rims to show the level of sidewall wear due to brakes. I did not ask for it but the manufacturer put it in anyway. If you have a rim that broke along the groove, you can return it for warranty replacement.

All rims sold after April 2005 had no groove. Also the material was upgraded from 7005 T6 aluminum to stronger 7005H T6."

Kris

So... therefore Kris Holm rims are not made of 6061 like Koxx, Viz, and Hog. And yes, those are Kris Holm's actual words.
