Forks

Just curious of how many people are going through forks like there is no tomorrow.

I have broken 6 forks I wouldn't think that was bad going if it had been over 6 years.

But its more when I started learning trials riding it wasn't really a problem. I purchased a set of fatty-rs and they lasted around 3 years. But when I had them front wheel moves didn't seem so common.

Now forks seem to be lasting me around 4 to 6 months.

I think its amazing that they do last this long considering the amount of abuse they get.

But if this is common maybe it's time for a bigger steerer tube like on some suspension forks?

Or just heavier stronger forks that still have some flex in them so it doesn't pass the stress on to the head tube?

Fatty R's are one of the strongest forks around, and i've been using the same pair for over 4 years now, and that's using them with maguras and a disc, street and natural,

There was a point were all i did was brake forks, it's normally caused when your learning and have your front wheel up on objects and are hopping around, what happens is the forks are forced forward and then snap....

Try not to hop about so much and when you do, try and unweight the bike as to not put so much stress on the forks.. if you go to frount wheel alot when you land try and shift your weight to the bars and tuck the rear end using your feet, when you do this most of the force gets lost though you and where your not putting your weight on the rear of the bike it's not acting as a lever!!! if you see what i mean...

Have you snaped any bar's? they hurt more that your pride >_<

Fatty-R's are extremly strong it toook me to do a 180 gap to hook!!! and it only "Cracked" them around the legs where they are welded to the main tube of the fork. weird place to go but i could see how/why it had happened.mayb you have just been unlucky dude?

try different forks. something like the "Zoo" one piece steerer jobs there like fatty forks very stiff and strong and i like the feel of them on taps etc etc. the urban forks and control forks are "personally" way too flexy and you can feel that the fork is no where near as stable as the Zoo ones, or for that matter the "Hi-Fi" forks too, similar design. :)

It does seem that forks usually snap / fracture forwards away from the frame . Given my screen name Endohopper , I feel duty bound to respond to this topic . I'm running a pair of noname generic 40 euro forks , which have lasted well over a year and a half thus far , despite LOTS of endo hopping .

I do intend to replace them soon as a precautionary measure , though .

its weird how the uber cheapo forks seem to last ages, some of you may remember scott pitcher, beast of a rider, he always ran el cheapo forks and they lasted him aggggges, some of the hooks he tried were mahooosive too

ive snapped several forks, again findign the cheaper ones to last longer. im currently running some fattys and love them but they are a tad short, so im going to try some pures/short sus again :)

I have bent some koxx forks, tuff guys and some hifis in the past month or too. I think i must be really unluky lol. I think it might be hooks but i dont do them that often and i see the likes of neil tunnicliffe and james porter do them all the time and they have no problems with forks.

Think its just me.

Cheers

lol just because they don't post on trials forum every time they snap a set, doesn't mean they dont snap any.

Love it

Daniel already has a set of broken HiFis sat in the garage, and now, after our ride today, a broken set of Zoos!

I dont think there are any forks out there strong enough for danny boy!

f**k! i've just read what DAB wrote at the top, thats probably the reason my forks sound so, well, broken, I do transfers all the time, they creak and just won't stop,

i have checked the steerer tube over and over and there are no stress marks, but they sound snapped. which really has me baffled. echo urban forks btw.

can anyone elaborate?
