Keep Your Bike In A Garage Or Shed?

Alan

Recommended Posts

My mum is getting pissed off with my bike being indoors and wants me to keep it in the shed, So i've been trying to think of way to make my bike as safe as possible.

I thought that a ground anchor, Nice fat chain and some door and window alarms could help, Is there anyone that uses any of theses products or uses anything else to prevent there pride and joy being stolen?

IPB Image

Window or Door alarm, 120DB alarm, With an entry/exit delay.

Ground anchors, Supposedly have fixing bolts and security ball bearings which makes them drill-proof. No need for setting new concrete with the anchor neither.

Nice fat chain, Maade as a motorcycle chain so should be nice and strong.

These are three things i can think of that will really help to prevent my bike being stolen. Can other people state

whether they keep there bike in a shed or garage and what methods they use to help prevent thieves from doing what theves do best.

Cheers Alan. :)

hmm, letting down your tyres and having an alarm, so that they cannot ride away and you've got an advantage over catching them, as they will have to carry/walk with the bike, they might just ditch it. Securing it to the wall of the shed, and an alarm. Clearly an alarm is the way forward but you also need something that'll delay them so they will hesitate and run or you can catch them red handed, with your red face, and your red baseball bat maybe?

Well i was thinking, They get through the door and then the alam sounds, They get worried and try and rush getting the lock off my bike and by the time they have the lock off or maybe even still trying, the police will be on there way and ill meet the thief with a knife.......

hmmm a knife ay? hows about a big net of crabs/lobsters dangling from the ceiling and when the alarm sounds the door closes and a second lock applies and then all the crabs/lobsters fall on the burglar, then technically you can say you didn't assault him in any way and if he wasn't there the crabs/lobsters wouldn't have never fallen on him!

God i'm tired, you can always tell when i'm tired because i talk out my arse.

Mine are all in my room or outhouse...get a cosh and a pair of knuckle dusters...so that if they somehow overcome your security methods you can beat the living sh*t out of them, you could always buy a pitbull and keep it in a kennel which is fenced off with your shed,so that they have to go past it to get to the door then it would eat them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry im tired.

Harsh grind. That's all the alarm you need :P

Just put your bike in the back of your shed and bolt it to the wall using one of those bike chains and put a blanket over it. If you want more, drill a hole in our shed door, loop another bike chain through the hole and bolt the chain to the inside of your shed so the padlock can't be snapped. Just make sure the hole in the shed is just big enough so you can open and close the padlock.

My silly ideas...

Do the TPA in the rear magura al lthe way up, so the brakes locked.

Take off the front wheel, and keep it in your room.

And weigh down the bike, add random spikes to it if needed, to make it awkward to carry.

That way, they can't ride it anywhere, even if they do undo the TPA, there's no front wheel.

Put the bike behind a load of clutter.

Any rubbish in your garage or whatever, move it out the way, put the bike there, then cover it.

Make sure you get some noisey stuff around it too, so if they do happen to see the bike, they'll have to scramble over all the crap, or try and move it all out the way.

Cover the bike in locks.

Will cost a fair bit, but will be a bitch to get through before you spot them.

Have a huuge ones going from wheel to frame, and another one bolted to the wall, wrapped around the bike.

Wire up the bike to some electricity.

If they touch the bike, they'll get a huge electrical shock, that will stun them, and no doubt will make the scream/shout. Thus waking you up, catching them, then ringing the police with a stunned bike theif sat in your garage.

Hope you don't take these seriously... :P

Goodnight. :)

I feel sorry for you guys, my area is by far not a safe one. Yet i have left my bike in the little entry way at the side of my house unlocked and in plain view of the public for about 3 days many times purely because i'd forgotten it was there. My bike is currently just sat outside at the minute in my back garden and theres no way i'm going out to bring it in.

Get a lock and throw a rag over it, you'll be fine. Or lock it to something huge like the lawnmower then nowone'll be able to run around carrying a bike/lawnmower monstrosity.

What exactly is her objection to you keeping it indoors ? Grease , mud , dogs**t on tyres ? Are you not even allowed to store it in your own room ? Get the bike super clean and shiny , then allocate a space in your room and try to persuade her highlighting the security factor .

I can't even remember a time when my bike wasn't stored in my flat / appartment / house , either in the U.K or Holland . Failing that , plant some antipersonell mines , and set up barbed wire and armed guards . :ermm:

She says tyres but i tell her i don't ride off-road so she says handles scratch the wall so i say ill get these things that go in the end of the bars (barends :P )

I even asked her to ask if its covered by insurance if it gets knicked out of the shed but she's to lazy to even find that out  Do you think it would be?

I'm not too sure on weather my bikes covered thats why i've just kept receipts of everything that way if your bike does get stolen you can claim every single bit back brand new and it would be just as before :D You can also take out separate policies on bikes as well although with the price of trials bikes i think it might be on the steep side, have a look on the internet and see what you can find, actually i'm going to have a look as well so ill tell you if i find anything worthwhile.
