Stan Shaw
I fit 6 gears on using 8spd spacing, so i think it must be 35mm?

ScotchDave
Woah there, that can't be right. If 8 gears use 35m, then 6 at the same spacing must use less, maybe 30 ish.
Dan Jones
Do you run the lockring you get with the shimano cassettes? I'm using a tiagra 8spd (6 gears)cassette and because the lock ring thread only just reaches the freehub i think i have done the thread in.With a questionably accurate tape measure the freehub space for the cassette to fit on is about 28mm. If thats any help.No it should be fine i say 28mm. Edited April 12, 2006 by trialsy
ScotchDave
They should use standard lockrings as far as I'm aware, maybe try a mtb lockring, might have more thread on it.

dave33
24 mm i know this for a facttrust me ashcant be 6 cogs which are 1.8mm thick (8speed) =10.8mm and the spacers which are 3mmx5=15mm if using 8 and 9 spacing so thats 25.8mm? thats with 8 speed spacing so the gears wont all work with the 8speed shifter so you would need a 6 speed shifter, and lets say you use normal cog from an 8speed cassette which are 1.8mm thick so you need 6 of them thats 10.8mmand the spacers would be 3.5mm thick so thats 17.5mmadd that and you get 28.3mm so what spacing do hope say to use? Dai the Socket
I made this hub. It's 21.888888888124mm exactly.
Ashley Smith
hahaha therefore you could get 5.47777's worth of hope sprockets on there my fine fellowash
dave33
ok well the only way you will get 6 cogs from an 8 speed cassette would be to use spacers from a 9 speed cassette which are 2.56mm wide so that a total of 23.6mm so if you helped develop the hub, how was it designed?for 8 speed spacing or 9 speed spacing and what shifter where you thinking in using ? yer i find i have troubles getting the lock ring to reach as well try using spacers from a 9 speed cassette should fit on better pat
