the judge
They do save some weight but if there's nothing wrong with your rim at the moment I wouldn't bother, lots of people use an Alex DX32 which aren't drilled.p.s. you're not allowed pics in your sig
Spaz Monkey
fair enough and cheers about the sig thing
Scotty H
yes it's definitely worth getting drilled rims lighter look cooler it's just what every one has i would also recommend echo rims but that more personal preference scott

flipkickbs
It completely depends on the quality of the rim as to how good it is, but i'd say overall drilled rims are lighter while sacrificing some strength, and undrilled rims are heavier but more resistant to flatspots. But as i say, each rim varys vastly, e.g. the 06 echo rims flatspot like crazy, yet the drilled alex dx32 is extremely resistant to flatspots. Wright Pads
Drilled rims have:-Lighter overall weightLighter rolling weightLook coolLast possibly slightly less longerUndrilled rims have:-Heavey overall weightHeavy rolling weightCan look cool tooWill last rather a long timeKey issues in all of this is rolling weight, if it's heavy and spinning it's cary some pace with it and when you us ethem ''trusted'' brake sof yours they will stop it but not as good as an undriled. it'll be mear m/s of difference but in day to daylife on cars, lorries, trains, bikes etc etc it's proven and if you look at them when out and about you'll see it in actionSo yes drilled is worth it but lso carrys a bit of risk but no more of a risk than you do a 6ft drop and landing harsh and bending the rim or landing flat on your face anyway
011001000110010101110010
Pete, please explain rolling weight?Drilling rims on the front, non drilled on the rear.
Wright Pads
Rolling weight is the weight of the wheel at the spinning momentium. The faster it spins the heavyer she be and if drilled a lot heavyer than an undrileld one.So a drileld one is lighter when static or spinning as to an undrilled one
cvtrial
It looks cool, it is cool, and it's leight weight! It's totally worth it!
011001000110010101110010
Sorry, but the spinning wieght will have no effect when you are riding. You mean centripetal force...
Luzac
it all depends on wich rim and how big holes you want to make.of course, you shouldn't just drill some holes in your rim cause you feel like itbut if you masure a bit, looked up on a DX32from 15mm holes to 22mm holes you'd save around 54% more weight, but still it'd just be a couple of ouncesall this about rotating weight, i dunno about you guys, but my trials bike aint rolling too fast anyway so.if youre not harsh on wheels, have a heavy rim and feel that you have the time over, go for it. but i bet you wont feel any diffrence
Wright Pads
NOOOOoooCentruflugal force is what keep the water in a bucket thats being spun over your head in the bucket and not over youRolling nweight is the exess weight of thee wheel when under rotaion which will affect you in rididng and your brakes being the most important reason.1 less weight to move2 lees weight to stop3 less weight to controle make sit easyer to control

spode@thinkbikes
I haven't read many particuarly decent responses here. Especially with the "because everyone else has them". What a ****ing lame reason to buy something.I just got a new back wheel. I've always run D521's, but I used an Onza this time, which is 48mm wide and drilled. The weight is probably quite similar. as this is wider so the drilled out section just compensates for the extra width. So that argument is kind of out of the window. The main benefit and reason I went to drilled out wide rims, is to stop the tyre rolling off. If you do a lot of spinny tricks or land sideways on the wheel, it really helps with this.My new wheel feels significantly nicer on the back wheel, but that could also be due to the new Pro II hub on there

011001000110010101110010
Pete, centripetal force is the equal and opposite for to the centrifugal force. Newtons 3rd law, if object A exerts a force on object B, object B exerts the same force in the opposite direction on object A.
