krissis
wheel building is an art in its self an should not be attempted by unconfident people, i am not going to tell you a method of building just that you should find your own and practice, trial and error seems to be the best way as the tips and manuals can be very hard to understand and the person who wrote it has probably has been building for years and has found this way suits them. i have tried to take tips off of people but have had no luck.i got a wheel and copied what i saw, bearing in mind if your building a disc wheel have a disc wheel to copy from as they have different lacing patters. finding your own technic may take several hours of wheel building but just go with what feels comftable once you have mastered lacing the wheel perfect dishing and truing, i spent over a couple of weeks perfecting my technics and now build every wheel i use and do builds for friends. krissis
And the point of the topic is?[/quoteto help others, i hope, i found it very hard to get advise on wheel builds and if someone gave me the advise i have just given then i think i would of found it easier as i tried many ways and still had to resort in trail and error as i could not get my head around what they were trying to put across. From Leei wont, i can fix anything on a bike from truing wheels, replacing pistons in hydraulic brake systems to stripping down forks and degreasing, replacing bushes seal or simply changing the oil or setting the rebond (internally, anyone can simply change it if its external ), i built my bike up and service it my self plus im tryin to open my own bike shop but am struggling to get funding, anyone want any tips just ask
Simpson
Wheels building should only be done if you can od everything eles on a bike, that way you know your good at mechaincsBullshit - building a wheel is a closed skill you could teach a 6 year old who knows nothing about bikes how to build a wheel if you spent time with them
Wright Pads
Lacing up is fairly easy pending what you doingTruning is not
Lawnmowerman
You shouldnt need to true a wheel if its built properly. Simply get even spoke tension and itll build straight

N.Wood
What about pre-stressing? That'll just stress then need re-truing again after the first ride as the spokes settle in.
krissis
he's right its best to destress the spokes first by bending um side to side (around each other), then true it again and repeat that until all the creeks and twangs have gone and your wheel is nice and straight. its not that easy as tightening up all the spokes to the same torque and its done because trailing and leading spokes are under diffirent tension. Mr_Pitbull
You know your the wheel truing master, once you've successfully built a 36H profile (larger flange on each side) onto a 32H Echo Rim, without any signs of a buckle or egg.Piece,James

dave85
Echo rims only come in 32 hole. Profiles (at the time at least) commonly came in 36. And ignoring anything else, Craig made it work therefore it was brilliant
