Are you sure its steel? that would be sooo heavy! Double check, maybe its steel alloy?

Rob

:S just because its steel doesnt mean its heavy. its possible to make a steel frame the same weight as an alu one and make it just as strong. the whole steel frames are extremly heavy is a bit of a myth, especially with trials frames

f**k.....me thats not a crack that f**ked, dead, snapped, gone

There are 4130 cromloy, baiscly pig steal, no good for trials frames. Tig wlede that and plate it. No even fillet it. Could and would be better to replace a full downtube in there

Nicely done

How ever that frame looks differnt to all the others! Steal when it cracks wouldn't show white but alloy does. Looks liek a PX Z5 to me

well congrats for producing alot of bull!!

1stley, 4130 is a high quality material that all top end bmx frames and some steel trials bikes are made of. its not pig iron you idiot.

2ndley, all metals go white at the neds if they snap, i snapped my old shite bmx frame, the places where it went were white. i snapped a stainless steel knife blade yesterday, the tip of the break was white.

pig steel is just mild steel pete ;) stop talking out of your arse :)

4130 is pretty darn good, sure it hasnt got as good a properties as say t45 or the reynolds series of tubing, buts its still very solid and strong

as for the frame, get it gusseted and welded-should last a wee while longer :)

iolo will reweld it for you, at a well beter price than anyone else too.

So the frame is Aluminium? If so then it needs Tig welding, and IOLO can't do it.

I need to get my bike Tig welded up. Hardest thing it getting it somewhere. Grr.

If it's steel then it'll be easy. Take it to any garage or general fabricators and they'll seal it up (Y)

Once a crack has formed, NOTHING will stop it from continuing through the material until it fractures.

Welding will help prevent the rate at which the crack develops, but it will develop, without a doubt, and one day when perhaps your front teeh depend on it, it might just go. Getting a gusset welded over the area might help, but also you reduce the ability to check the frame properly inside the gussest, so any new or existing cracks that did develop, might be harder to spot.......

My only concern is that personally, welding a frame is a quick fix to allow one to still ride, if one needs toime to raise cash for a new frame. Suggesting welding a frame which he has just bought, and is likely to want to ride a significant amount, isn't really the best idea.

The confusion about the steel/aluminium alloy - If it's steel it can easily be rewelded and provided the welder is experianced the surrounding area should not be adversly affected by the heat. Applying too much heat to the area will reduce it's strength, but with steel it's not such an issue.

With aluminium, you can e-weld it, but without heat treatment afterwards the area surrounding the crack will soften up a fair bit, so further cracks could develop there.

Pretty shite situation to be in to be honest, It baffles me how people can manage to break these things, but i guess it's a fact of life for some.....

f**king hell james.

I definately think that is down to dan and I definately think you should get your money beck.

The frame is 1year old, ish. and was bought from adam vince (yes the scammer) then dan sold it to james about 2weeks ago.

The frame is definately steel. High graded steel too. James, ring this number and get rob doney to sort it for you.
