David
Just wondering if it is possible to bend/bodge normal bmx brake levers some how so they will fit on the curves of my bars?? (Till I get the money for proper levers) ThanksDave
Mark W
Bending brake levers is a pretty common thing to do in BMX, so yeah, it's not so bad. What sort of levers have you got? Are they actual U-brake ones, not V-brake levers you've bodged on or something?Either way, 1 or 2 ring-spanners will sort you out
David
Thanks for quick reply, there U-brake levers Im guessing you just bend the two parts of the clamp out?ThanksDave
Mark W
Nah, you slip the ring-spanner over the end of the blade, then push it round, basically... Paint time Similar to this, red bit being the ring-spanner slotted over it, obviously. Just use your head and you'll see the best place to put it
David
Ah I see, so your basically just forcing the brake lever down your bars?Dave
Mark W
You're basically making it go \_ instead of just __, so you move the lever body down the bars, then bend the blade out to the right point, if you get me? Just go easy, and do it bit by bit. Oh, and if you think "Just a bit more...", don't do it, 'cos you will do it too hard and snap the blade, it's just the way it is Thinking about it, I've got a pic I made for someone about it ages ago... David
Cheers Just out of interest, how long do you run your bars? I dont think narrow bars would suite me, so Im not sure how much to cut them down, but at the moment there too long to spin...
Mark W
I've got 26" wide Slam bars, but I used to have 23" or so Beringer bars. Both felt really nice, for different reasons. I'm liking the wider bars now a bit though, just a bit more stability for stuff. What bars have you got now, or if you're unsure, how wide are they? Michael Hardman
I bent, reshaped and cut my lever down to fit my narrow bars.I heated it up and then bent it and let it cool before I cut and filed it down to look like a Goldfinger lever but shorter. Mark W
Surely if it was any shorter than the Goldfinger you'd basically have the ball-end of the cable in your finger? With my Monolever medium, I had to file away part of the back of the tip so it was sculpted to fit my middle finger (well, not hit my middle finger), and it was bent a bit. I've currently tweaked the tip of my Mono small around a bit more so it feels like it holds my finger more. All good

David
Hey, I measured my bars. There 23.5" not as narrow as I thought! It must just be me not knowing how to spin bars.

Such great levers I am and apart from the bolts that are made of cheese there great levers, nice shape so much leverage for a small lever.
