Smo™
Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase a dedicated server to host an online game for myself and some friends. I'm looking for a reasonable processor at ~2Ghz, 1Gig of RAM and roughly 80GB of space. It would also require MSSQL and PHP support. Can anyone recommend some places please? I've had a look around but I don't like using things like this unless I have some other opinions.
Extreme_biker0
Well trials-forum before it was on a dedicated server used to be with www.aegishosting.com, who offer dedicated servers which tomturd obvoisly turned down in favor of someone else. So i'm guessing tomturd is gonna suggest beter than that!Reason I relate back to the forum hosts is they seem to know what they're talking about when it comes to web design and stuff, because they have shared similar views to me in the past when I was a webmaster.MarkI think its bang out how they put that hamster in the jar. Simon
Completly depends on your budget. If you want the best of the best, use theplanet.com. Good deals and in UK so better pings, try 49pence.com, want a stupidly cheap bargain, webhostingtalk.com, so and so forfth.Theres different servers for different budgets really. Why do you need MSSQL out of interest? Is it required for the game you want to run? If it can run MySQL, run that, seriously.
Smo™
Unfortunately it needs MSSQL. Basically I have leaked server files for an online game called MuOnline and I've been using an old PC of mine as a host server and have a community of about 80 players worldwide that connect to it and play. I want to expand it, and to do that I require a dedicated server.
Simon
Does MSSQL not required a windows server? I may completly wrong, if i am, ignore this next comment, but windows server are in general around 10/20 pound more, often then not, a lot more then that too. Never really looked into MSSQL before, so i'm honestly not sure. What sort of prices are you looking at though, as currently you are looking at between 50 and 70 pounds a month, but the sites i suggested should be fine. Except instead of theplanet.com, use servermatrix.com, its their entry level sister site. Where Trials-Shack used to be hosted, and if i could lick their ass, i would, they was awesome. Danny
If its gaming then your going to want as lower pings as possible. Is it going to be mainly uk players? If so i say get a uk server rather than one in the US.
