Infurnass
Bassically i have a zoo python since christmas, but now i feel i would like a sponsor, comps are just to far away to try and get there because i dont have a car and live in the middle of no where almost. btw i live in aldeburgh which is on the coast East of Ipswich.Would it be worth getting a sponsor ? i can do rail gaps and front wheel moves now and pretty good at side hops (both sides) and all the other junk. i can full pedal gap about 2.5m.Do i just make a video of all the things i do then send it to some companies ?any info is good cause i know diddly squat (nothing). ill probably check this later tonight. bye
Simpson
sponsers are hard to get and even if you do get one its not worth the hasstlethey give you components and comp entrances MAXIMUM but they ask for videos and stuff in return - i mean ive never been sponsered and never would have one stick loads of stickers on your bikepay for your comps all a sponser doessome people prob get good deals prob though
sexymike
bless99% of the time, the sponsor will come looking for you. the deal with sponsorships is that they give u cheap or free bits so that you can promote the company, its all advertising at the end of the day.You have to be good enough for people to want to spend money at the shop, people like craig are great examples, Select sold a million Zoo's of the back of him and neil.reading what you put, unfortunatly doesnt sound like huge ability but the want to ride is something all companies will look forMake videos, often and improve as much as u can, the time will come!*that was a bit sensible for me................ass
watto
Do you really think this sport is just to get out and to get sponsored, it should just be about your love for the sport not that you want cheap or free stuff from shops. Sponsorship will come along when/if it wants to just try to get yourself out there and noticed by going on big rides, posting videos etc. Also Sponsorship really isn't neccessary for this sport its just a perk of being a trials rider. Tony Harrison
And just what is a sponsor going to get in return from you? There seems to be this stigma attached to 'being sponsored'. If someone thinks you're worth sponsoring/supporting, then they'll do it. If they haven't noticed you, then the chances are nobody else has, and so it would be pointless sponsoring you anyway... Besides, for every 'I want to be sponsored' new member on here, there are at least 100 other riders who are far better but unsponsored.Just go and ride your bloody bike. Infurnass
Dont get me wrong i really do love trials riding, i do it every day even in the blasting winds of the coast, for sure i get a lot of attention from doing it, but i was just trying to figure out if it would be worth the hasle of making videos and sending them off ect ect.Ill make a video when i get a new pc, show u lot and shove it up the sponsors arse. I have learned all my stuff from craig anyway so i will never be near as good as him. i just like to show off.keep fit and have fun all at the same time. Tony Harrison
Get Adam from Merseytrial to do you a deal on a new Toxsin mod, then you can pretend you're sponsored 'cos you got it cheap!
Heatsink
From the rider's point of view, aside from it giving you an ego boost to be sponsored, it can be much more than just free components in exchange for publicity through your riding that you were doing anyway. If you're a great rider then the support from companies can help further. I guess it depends on who's supporting you. The form and depth of support you can get no doubt varies a huge amount, but will no doubt be very beneficial as long as you're happy with the components you're riding, and get on with your sponsor! Although in the trials world there's less available than more popular sports, at the pinnacle of the money tree, World Champs may get their travel expenses paid for and a salary (or appearance fee) without which they wouldn't ride at exciting events around the world. At the other end it could mean lots of free components which certainly helps with funding everything. The publicity side in return can come quite easily if you're a good rider, since just by getting out there and riding, making the odd video, then you can help raise the profile of the company supporting you so that it's a reciprocal thing.Aside from sponsorship being a great facilitator, there's the satisfying aspect of being involved with the R&D of a new product. I often have prototype parts or designs in CAD that I want to share with riders and get their feedback on. I would have thought that it's pretty cool to be able to influence the design and ride exclusive new stuff first. Very satisfying when the product is released and you can see your influence and involvement there. It could be pretty cool to be sponsored rather than wanting to "Stick it up their bums" BTW, I'm not looking for any more people on my team! - I've already got plenty of riders and I'd like to help these guys better rather than dilute my support. however rules are always made to be broken, so if you're wanting to be sponsored then why not send updates to companies showing your vids, photos, comp results, without being pushy. Try and demonstrate a good attitude so that they'll be happy that you're a representative for their products. Steve
Mr Monty
Right i see it this way i don't think you should ask to be sponsored they should ask you. It's all ok to get free stuff but that would invove going to all the comp's and around the world. i would enjoy that but, think about it this way not many people enjoy there job's and it might turn trials in to a job. But i would love to do that!
grantham
I Agree with most of what steve has put aprt from Aside from sponsorship being a great facilitator, there's the satisfying aspect of being involved with the R&D of a new product. I often have prototype parts or designs in CAD that I want to share with riders and get their feedback on. I would have thought that it's pretty cool to be able to influence the design and ride exclusive new stuff first. Very satisfying when the product is released and you can see your influence and involvement there.Me and someone else were talking about this the other month, this is actually a downside to sponsorship, yes it sgreat to get hands on the new parts before they come out, but as for prototypes, there are usually several prototypes as there are things wrong with them, so i'd say thats a bad point.Sponsorship in trials deffinatly isn't nearly as good as in other sports, its only the very top in this sport that can make a steady living from it.Read waynios essay on sponsorship and support

montyrider
Ha ha i know infurnass its my mate stefan...he told me he wanted to make a video i aint seen him today was meant to go riding with him but i was working I dont think he's going for a big time sponsor he is a wicked rider i have to say and he is well worthy of entering competietions and doing well. But were we live its hard to get to comps and stuff let alone find a club to join! What i think my mate wants to do is get a small sponsor e.g. a shop or something alike to help him go and enter comps and help progress the sport for himself further not become some manic hero over night....hope this has helped clear things up for people

crazy_gap girl
Bascily "real" sponsorship is when you get payed to ride your bike along with free productsall the dicountedparts and some free stuff is "support"i think most riders think that "sponsorship" with discounted parts or free t-shirts is propper sponsorship.waynios essay is basicly what im saying. lol
M3LLON_t-mag
i have only been riding 4 months but i have noticed and i'm sure a lot of people will agree trials is all about fun and achievement and conquering fears of course having a sponsor is a bonus but just go out ride and have the time of your life doing itmellon
montyrider
Yeah i defenitley agree trials is all about having fun so are all sports and i can really say i'd much rather be out having fun with my friends rather than worrying about sponsorship and signing formsand having to travel were i don't wanna and all that biz,but if people are good enough for sponsorship and give our sport a good name then go for it cause its people like that can influence other people to really enjoy the sport and have an idol to follow in their life. But im just as happy riding how i want being happy with the bike i have, meeting great people and watching some of the most amazing people out their, and reaching goals that i set myself and thats what our sport is all about and i hope many people will agree.
