His spelling and grammer isn't too hot, so probably some foreign schemer. Hes a pilot for American airlines so should be fairly literate etc.....

I'm also pretty sure Western Union stuff isa little skechy for transfers with people you don't know.

Out of interest what is the item he will pay £200 for? :-:shifty:

Everytime I sell something on ebay I get one of these Scamming emails!

They want to buy outside Ebay

They want to buy using Western Union

They offer to pay much more than the item is worth (appealing to human greed)

They give a story about it being a gift for a relation (appealing to your emotions)

They usually ask for you to send the goods in advance of payment.

Don't even waste your time replying or trying to be clever with them! The fact that 2 people have already voted yes shows why they continue to try this on.

A friend of mine who seems otherwise quite bright has managed to fall into a whole range of scams via ebay including the one above when he sent a Mobile phone ahead of payment so that the man's daughter could "Get it in time for her birthday." Then he almost fell for the one where someone offers you 3x the worth of your knackered old car. Fortunately he asked others about it and was put straight! The money appears, the car handed over, and then the money is withdrawn from your account much to your surprise!

Sounds familiar......

Hi seller,

I was very impressed with the advert of the item you placed on this site, though l am new to this site, l have read through and understand the condition of the product, I am interested and buying for my son as a birthday present who school in a university in her mother's country.I will be offering you US$250,excluding shipping cost through Fed Ex,Dhl or UPS courier service to Africa (Nigeria). I will remit the money through Paypal or Money Order a fast and secure agent because of highly scam art all over the globe.Could you confirm to me your PayPal ID where the money will be sent to enable me proceed with the payment ASAP, I want you to stop the auction immediately to confirm to me your readiness to sell the product to me.

You can reach me on e-mail address:xxxxxxx@yahoo.com,+448715xxxxxx. Endeavour to send me your private e-mail contact address for easy communication for smooth and geniue transaction. I look forward to hear from you urgently. Regards. Denis Robert

Im pretty sure they are just generated by a bot.

The give away signs are the bogus prices and 'the item' and 'this site'.

Well known scam - though I'm not entirely sure how it works - is that a bank transfer is made. The funds appear in the recipients account and items are dispatched. When there are no funds available to cover the transfer, the money is pulled back, with no recourse for the seller.

If you can, stick with paypal. That clears payment before sending it on.

Paypal is also apparantly not 100% reliable. It's still possible for money to be withdrawn afterwards, and there are some loop holes which mean you don't get the coverage you were expecting. This friend of mine had someone pay him via 2 installments through paypal. Thinking all was well he dispatched the goods and then the money got withdrawn only for him to find that there was no coverage because the payment wasn't carried out in one transaction!

I heard of books written on using paypal carefully to ensure you don't fall into any traps like this.

Could somebody explain why Western Union is so dogy? I always use it when sending money abroad and not using paypal/card. It's quick and easy although recently when I was paying something to Tartybikes they made me sign lots of papers concerning buying items over the internet.

What the hell?

QUOTE(deanie-b @ Apr 6 2006, 12:51 PM)

No reason why you shouldn't Alan, See if the money comes though before you send anything out. He's french, but works in american airways? :Slol :)

No no you got it all wrong mate...he isn't french if you read the reply back he says he's a "france man" ;)

Yes spelling and grammer is way off...and i'll now know not to deal with anybody using that payment method..thanks all :D

It's only dodgy if you deal with a dodgy b*****d. They're only a money transfer company - making sure you don't get ripped by somebody outside their control off isn't their problem - if you get me..
