Re-installing Win Xp

Ok, so I have;

A laptop, riddled with viruses, spyware, trojan donkeys, and green monkeys

A copy of Win XP disk

A licence code

So what's next?

I'm guessing open comand prompt and;

format C:.. ENTER... YES... and wait untill my pc is effectively dead.

Then turn the beast on and whack in the disk and sit back and let it do the rest.

Is that all correct?

That doesnt work. As you can probably understand, you cannot format a disk that you are using. so that wont work. You will need to put the disk in a restart the computer. If it decides not to boot you will need to change your cmos settings. this can be done by pressing delete or F2. on the first screen(you know where it says to push a button to enter setup/settings). Then i think itsunder advanced settings. Just change one of the list to Cd Drive and save settings and restart, follow the onscreen instructions from there..

Hope this helps

unplug your hardrive and any other usb things. When I did mine the hardrive decided to f**k itself over.

Took me AGES!!!!!!!!!!! to get it back, a very very long process

It was probably f**ked before.. ermm managed to install windows on an unplugged hard drive :huh:

As has been said, in short -

Put disk in,

Press restart,

Make sure CD drive is first boot device in BIOS,

Follow steps,

Should be up and running in about an hour or so.

No it wasnt. It was working perfectly fine for ages, then soon as I did the windows reinstall thing it wouldnt let me access it.

Also it was an external hardrive with things like vids and pics on, no windows based programmes, there on the internal silly. :P

Weird.. when I formatted my mates once (was working fine as far as we could see) it knackered up and took hours cos it was actually full of bad blocks. But windows does a good job of hiding those.. until you try to format it.

Ok first off, even if I tell this thing to boot from the disk it says that it's a non bootable disk.. So then I just started it up as normal and double clicked on install in the cd drive and went from there.. BUT it does't like the cd licence code even thought it's genuine!! :S

What do I do now? Cry? Try and get annother code?
