rocks370
hey guys.today i changed my frame over and when it came to removing the crank arms off my old frame it wasnt as easy as i expected....the right arm came off with the tool no problems but when i used the tool on the left arm it just pulled the thead out of the crank eventally i got it off by heating the arm up (so it expands around the spline) and hiting it with a hammer lol.anyway i dont really want to put it on my new frame if the only way i can get it off again is with brute force because i dont want to damage my new frame. is there a way of tapping the thread again? ive looked for a spare arm on the internet (tarty, ebay etc...) but cant find one similar.regardsSiedit:pics: Edited April 3, 2006 by rocks370
joe_eyre
Hi thereWell you can just use the crank are again but the next time you want to get it off you will have to use a hammer rather than the tool its still easy, Thats what i do and it still comes off because i have not got a tool.what is your new frame that your putting them on.Cheers joe

Tony Harrison
I can't really see you re-tapping a thread on the crank arm. You'd have to make the thread bigger than the old one, which would be difficult to do anyway. Plus the crank extractor tool wouldn't fit anymore... Stick the crank on and use a hammer to remove it in future, or buy a new crank...
