Joelk2
I started trials riding a few years ago and built a bike.Nothing special but one which does the job.i have rode a monty mod which obviously has no gears, i just wanted to know your guys/gals opinions on single speed and if there are any advantages??Hope someone can help and finalise my decision on whether to convert my bike to singlespeed. Thanks all Joel
DAB
If you do a search it's a normal topic....the easy way to say is.. if you you do comp, you have to have 6 gears..if you want gears have gears if you don't......don't as for me i use gears because i'm not worryed about hitting my mec (and i don't) and i like the option of being able to change gear when i need more speed or traction...there will be lots of people saying go single speed....... or gears all the way...... but the choice is yours!! you have to ride your bike, no one else
zoocrew
I agree with dab for getting around u really want your gears and if u go singlespeed u may still hit your mech hanger but its up to you.
Krisboats
I've gone single speed and its great. I was very reluctant at first because of riding to different places but to be honest i didn't miss my gears one bit. My drivetrain also feels very solid now due to my tensioner (freshproducts tensioner) not having any springs in it. I really don't like the feel a mech transmits through the chain and crank... its too flexy for me.Give it a go, with all these on one products just released you can get a decent tensioner and single speed cog for around £20 not like the near £45 i spent. Joelk2
Thanks for the replies people, Think ill be trying it, If i end up not liking it i can always change back as its not a massive expense loss.
fruitbat
single speed is the future, most trials bikes only use one gear so i dont see much point using other gears. And i live near the glen which is hilly so i do ride it around to places to ride a lotIf you do a search it's a normal topic....the easy way to say is.. if you you do comp, you have to have 6 gears..if you want gears have gears if you don't......don't as for me i use gears because i'm not worryed about hitting my mec (and i don't) and i like the option of being able to change gear when i need more speed or traction...there will be lots of people saying go single speed....... or gears all the way...... but the choice is yours!! you have to ride your bike, no one else Not alwaysYeah i know in nationals etc you do but a lot of local comps now dont require the gear thing as so many people have gone single speed. I know Tyke Trial doesnt have the 6 speed ruleFrooty
