Simon
no real need for anything over 2 megThere is always a need for more then 2mb. Had to watch someone test my server, 2mb/sec. Thats a plus 20mb connection by the way.Friend has 8mb, and its insane how quick he gets stuff. Takes him 10 minutes to fully download an episode of Lost, rar it up, then start sending it to me. I'm on 1mb by the way, and hate it.Just to think, not so long ago 128k was the dogs bollocks.
Dr. Nick Riviera
i get things relatively quickly and have a >10 ping in all my games. so from a price:service standpoint i'd say 2 meg is the shit although i wouldnt say no to 10meg

Mark W
Our climb up to 2.2meg broadband is awesome. We were on 56K for the longest time, 'til BT wanted to phase it out. They said "Right, you can go to 128kb/sec broadband for the same cost, or you can stay on 56K. To give you an idea of how fast broadband can be, we'll let you try out 576k broadband for 3 months." 3 months passes. We don't get put back down. A month or two later, we get upgraded for free to 2.2mbps broadband, still at the price of 56K. Ching
RicH_87
2mb/s here too,my brothers mate in sweden is on 250mb/s apparently, (and no i didn't get it wrong). he has burnt loads of standard network cards as a result.apparently he's managed to bag a network card fast enough to keep up but he's soon to be upgrading to even faster.other countries are waaaaaay ahead of the uk in terms of internet connection. 2mb is so poor in the whole sceme of things really. Plus they only pay a fraction of the price. That swedish connection for example is the equivilant of ÂŁ8 a month. My mate's bt connection once logged in at 9.2gb for around 10 minutes, so we can easily go quicker, as long as they de-restrict it at 'their' end.As for my opinion on my connection, well its not too bad in terms of stability, its usually on 24/7/365, depending on wether or not my pc skrews up the router. My ping on CS is normally around 7, and downloading is respectable. However some streaming can be a bit iffy which is unacceptable really, and uploading is just a joke. I could run into town and hand deliver some stuff quicker than it takes to upload it.oh, and all this is with 4 pcs and an xbox or 2 all the time, which it copes with fine. All ethernet too, none of this lardy dar wireless crap. Edited April 2, 2006 by RicH_87

Simon
Looking on my connection status, I am on 100mbp/s at the moment!!! Some days it has its ups Some days has its down Thats the speed at which your NIC (Network Interface Card) works and is not your actual connected speed. And rich, we are further behind then you think, in sweden you could get 10mbit SDSL two years ago for the price we was getting 128k.They also offer 1gbit home lines now. Janson
Simon loves Sweden! I personally have 8mb. Had 2mb for a few years (since 2001 or something) but got upgraded to 8mb a year or something ago..Two of my friends have 10/10 cable, which is pretty cool. 24mb DSL is readily avaliable for almost everyone here nowadays, but most people tend to stick with something a bit slower and cheaper. It's funny though, because companies are NOW advertising 256/512k connections for "cheap", when almost everyone is on 1mb+. I'd definitely pay a tenner more for 8 instead of 256...Not sure about 100mb+ connections either. I know everyone with 10/10 cable can be upgraded to 100/100, but unless you're living in an office, I find it pretty hard, and VERY expensive, to get anything faster than 100.. Not that that's not fast enough though.I usually get speeds between 600 and 1000kb/s downloading stuff.
