How Smooth Is Yours!?

I wanted to know how my front hub compared to other peoples because in my eyes it has always super smooth for a onza hub anyway and i have had it for like 2 and a half years now.

Right heres what you do:

1. Turn your bike upside down (resting on the handelbars) and get a stopwatch.

2. Now simultaneously spin the wheel as hard as you can and start the stopwatch.

3. Wait until the wheel has completely stopped moving, i mean COMPLETELY! and stop the the stop watch.

4. Repeat the test 3 times and find the average time.

e.g. 2.15, 2.20, 2.25 where my times therefore my average time was 2mins and 20secs which i would say is pretty smooth.

Like to see how it compares to chris kings etc ^_^

Obviously the test is going to be quite biased with the strength of peoples tug of the wheel/how true the wheel is/weights of the wheel/tyre/if you have a disk or not/tyre pressure but it should give a rough idea of how smooth your hub is.

By the way i ride stock so i don't know if this would affect the results.

Cheers, (Y)

OKay with my front disc connected properly mine goes on average 17 seconds. Without it i get an average of 5 minutes 22 seconds.

Onza hub, onza ronnie rim, supercycles wheelbuild slightly untrue tioga dh rear 2.3 tyre. (stock bike)

It's not really a test for smoothness though? My front bulb on my Kona is le f**ked. It's pretty rough and you can move the wheel 5-10mm to each side but it'll spin forever even with my disc slightly rubbing.

It's unweighted rolling resistance really.

A new shitmano hub will be (or might be...) pretty smooth but you could overtighten the bearing cones and the wheel would still be smooth but you'd be lucky if you got a whole rotation out of it....

Yea, point taken i know it was a crap idea but i thought id just see how mine compared. And i dont have a disk! or a buckle so....didnt really think about it for long.

Surprised how long some people span for though. 5 and a half mins is bloody loads and i assume people that say it spins forever could be bothered to time it. (Y)

Cheers anyway.

on a road racing bike like £5000 or something stupid in the shop spins forever and is well hard to stop it we have come to the conclusion that it is the weight of the valve that speeds on way down and glides round the rest that wheel spins for minutes if you just touch it
