streetjibs
here we go yo... heres the scenario...put new rear tyre on, slide wheel back into frame, doing up fun bolts on king rear hub.... SNAPP!!!Yes kids thats right, the funbolt on my king rear hub (hd axle etc etc) snapped in half... leaving half of the bolt locked tightly inside the hub with the remaining head of the bolt sitting on my bedroom floor!QUESTION 1 - Can I use a steel bolt with same thread oviously and size from hardware shop??(This is assuming when i use a tap to get the remaining bolt half out of the hub it works)QUESTION 2 - Does anywhere sell the King bolts?? (if answer to q1 is NO)QUESTION 3 - Has anyone else done this? howd you fix it???Thanks in advance .....Danny
Onza Kieron
Sounds fine in theory, as long as you make sure it's the correct legnth, take the unsnapped one to the hardware store so you can get the perfect one.
Greetings
QUESTION 1 - Can I use a steel bolt with same thread oviously and size from hardware shop?? (This is assuming when i use a tap to get the remaining bolt half out of the hub it works) Don't think so, the thread has a larger diameter than the part which rests on the frame QUESTION 2 - Does anywhere sell the King bolts?? (if answer to q1 is NO) Tartybikes? Dunno QUESTION 3 - Has anyone else done this? howd you fix it??? Probably got the word wrong - go to a turner (guy that works on lathes) and have him make you one. It won't be in the least bit inferior to the King bolt, will just be a bit heavier.
Prawny Baby
from what i know, the king bolt uses a 12mm thread with a 10mm shaft. the thread is also of a different depth to standard metric bolts, which is why you cant use normal bolts......the 12mm shaft of the bolt wouldnt go into your frame, although if you did manage to find one the correct thread, i guess you could file the shaft down a bit..... i guess its possible.TartyBikes sell chris king fun bolts, for around £35 a pair

street trials rider
Question 3) YES!!! i snapped 1 of my HD bolts in half, e-mailed CK, sent it to them and they sent me out a new pair of bolts within a week, basically, if you have access to a torque rench, torque them up to 25lb/ft (as quoted by CK) or risk snapping them as they are only made from titanium
ScotchDave
Or alternately be sensible and don't do them up too tight.
