Ok its like a saddle, but with a toolbox inside it!!

It'd be great for long distance treks or for cross country rides. OK a bit daft for trials but you could design it so it could fit a few mini tools in like P.R.K , hex spanner thing, Tyre levers, allan keys multitools, chain tools

Loving the paint drawing lol, but how would it be kept shut? what if you go over a bump and it opens and you sit back down on it be a bit ouchy?

Alex

to be honest, the thought of that happening amuses me so much I don't think I want to correct it..

Isn't that just like the little strap-on, zip-up pouches you get that have velcro wraps that attach it to the two rails of your seat, and then hang off the rear underside of it? Meaning you can actually have a padded seat, and not get anally penetrated by a flap of plastic? :P

As long as the topic continues with the retarded ideas, i'll add mine.

If you've ever found yourself somewhere without a pump wishing you had remembered one.................

[attachmentid=3348]

Its a new 'handlepump'

(handlebars mixed with a pump if you didn't get it)

I'm a genius.

If you had a few spanners in there it would piss you off what with the jiggling and stuff (Edit: Yep, just noticed CB's post:)), and not to mention the embaressment of when the think opened up when your riding and all you're tools fly off everywhere.

why not take an old seat, cut a hole in it and try what ur saying?

without these ideas we wouldnt get anywhere anyway. All ideas start off like this. Im sure a LONG LONG LONG time ago no-one would have thought about carrying a bag around under your seat to carry your stuff.

But on XC bikes its popular now-a-days :)

Not really cos thats just plain awkward to get to. My idea has much more access

You don't get seapost on saddles :P the two rails (grey bits) are what clamp onto the seat post

Will, trust you to think of that :P

That pic was just an example, but my Dad's all work really well, and all the ones on the XC bikes that have been brought into the shop have been really easy to use, etc...

Think about the width of most seats on bicycles excluding those HUGE granny ass ones with mega springs.

They are usually only a bit of shaped plastic or something a few mm's thick with rails strapped on and padding helt between the plastic and what ever the cover is made of...... hardly much space to fit a tool box there. You'd have to make a fairly thick seat body to fit anything more than a few allen key's.

I'd rather throw my tools in a bag and put that on my back.

Kinda already been done, but in a seat tube. Your idea would be ok except the bars would have to be perfectly straight i.e. wouldn't work with riser bars. Also handlebars are quite thin so I don't know if pump internals would fit in them.

I hope you're joking... Because I thing you'll find he sure as hell was!! I mean come on, seriously, that would be a shocking idea!

I think the saddle idea would be good for tour de france riders that didnt want to lose time in stopping.

They don't tend to stop anyway, they have support vehicles. Mechanics have been known to hang out the windows and adjust a rear mech whilst the cyclist is still riding!!
