What Bars? Keep With The Traditional Wide?

Evening, or morning as the case may be.

With my bike coming together finally I need some bars and a stem!

Now for the last year+ i've ridden with Koxx try alls, (old style) with a koxx 110mm X 17 stem.

This seemed pretty perfect for me on my BT as it was pretty streety but good for everything else.

I'm building up my ashton (if that makes any difference) and im thinking of going for something a little 'different.'

Maybe some Easton EA50s or similar. I rode Rowans pure with Eastons and it seemed nice, didn't really notice the difference to be honest.

So what do I do? Stick with some specific trials bars or get something streety as thats what i like riding, hence getting a shorter bike.

Anyone have experience with these sorta bars?

I saw some guys control the other day in the pics thread, pretty normal trials set up but with some Azonic bars. That looked cool and fun.

Also what stem? Something around the 100/110 X 10-17?

ive run both the ea50s and ea70s, both fantastic bars, and you cant go wrong for strength, price and looks, but they are overshadowed by one bar in terms of feel............azonic double walls-they feel too nice

ive gone back to azonics, and im riding so much better, they just seem to suit me so well-im on a 1040wb base and i seem to be doing the same sorta riding as what you wanan do, streety stuff, with traditional trials mixed in the only trouble with aznoics as you already probably know, is the old strength issue-but alot of people seem to have had theirs ages with no problems, its just a risk you gotta take for the best feeling riser around

if you wanna get eastons, you wont regret it, they are good bars, and certainly dont feel shit

another bar i quite liked was the raceface diabolous bar-felt pretty nifty on my bike, but my front end wasnt high enough with them (1.5 rise), thats why i got 2.5 rise dws

I have had some azonics double wall riser when I was on a streety Orange Zero, never had a problem with them, but after several years, moved them onto my road bike (to upgrade my trials bike with Monty bars)

There is something about Monty bars that is unique, the bends, that make them so confortable and so adjustable (had them for 3 years now). Though the Easton look good too.

I prefer Azonics to Eastons. Last time I looked Chain Reaction were doing Azonic SW and DW bars pretty cheap...

personally peggs, id go with a set of Zoo bars with a nice 100x5 stem or something similar. my zoo bars feel a lot more streety than my pazzaz bars, and with a nice short stem, you will get the best of both worlds

azonic shape is ideal for trials posture, but the dw tend to crack, and the sw are reputedly stronger, but I have still broken 2 sets

eastons are stronger,with a lifetime warranty, and wade simmons etc use them for those huge drops.

probs worth getting the ea70's as they are wider than the 50's and lighter

Azonics break but are the nicest shaped bars on the planet.....

I had single walls and while one pair lasted me over a year (and being bent by mum running over my bike in the car) since then theyve all been breaking on me . . . . 4 - 6 months.....

EA50's - 70's ??? why bother get EA30's for 20 quid - same shape but quite narrow - i used them for a whole year no problems on my echo - decent shape - if you angle them really far foward so you get some upsweep...

the zoos do feel nice but - waaay too wide for me.

as for stems - in my opinion a stem is a stem is a stem ... hence the reason I run a 10 quid Nirve one (and have done for nearly 2 years) stay away from three bolters though .. . .

as for length - 100 with eastons so you can angle forward, lowish rise. 110 with zoos, and as they are lower rise you could get a more elevated one (but personally lower is better (just pull up harder...).

I used some EA50s with a 120mm stem and it felt almost exactly the same as my Monty bars I had previously. But they will be a fair bit narrower than the likes of Onza CF or Koxx bars. I've always thought that "trials" bars are too narrow anyway. Just depends what you want.

Then I got some DW in 2.5" rise and they are the sex. Loved them. But as lots of people have already said, they break pretty easily. I can't confirm that though - mine got stolen before I could really use them At the moment I'm running cut-down Easton Monkey lites or something and I like them narrow anyway.

So in my opinion, there's not much point in getting bog-standard bars + 110mm stem, because it's very similar to your trials bars (just slightly narrower). But if you fancy changing around, getting a shorter stem or higher bars, then yeah, I would go for some EA50s or Double Walls and a stem of your choice

Na porn star im not feeling zoo bars really, there nice and all but way too wide I think.

Rite the choices are between the following!

Azonic double wall DW

Azonic double wall

Easton EA50 riser

Easton EA50 MTB

Now I may as well of posted just one of each but it seems that theres £5 difference between the 2 Azonic bars because it says ones double wall- DW and the others just double wall

The Eastons are similar again but with MTB. Now the MTBs to me look better as they have more of a variety rise wise.

Thats the next question.......

What rise do I go for?

Now the rise on my koxx bars was probably similar to 1" but a lot of people here seem to favour the 2.5" rise, which to me looks massive!!

What about the middle, 2" rise?

Which of the four would you go for?

2.5inch azonics feel loooooovely, apparently the 2s feel slightly different, although it would seem all dw bars feel feckin lush whatever rise if you are going to get azonics, definately get them in 2.5, high front ends rule makes all the streetier stuff so much easier

as for the differences, i think 1 version is older? i just payed the extra fiver in hope that they may be better bars

the 28quid eastons are the newer versions, as you can see they have different logos not sure if they are worth the extra few quid, may as well!

I used to run Azonic pyramid double wall. They were great for my street side of riding, they were 2.5 rise. I thought they were better than the Easton EA50's that my friend had.

Can't really see the difference between the two DWs you posted up, but one is probably older than the other. I would go for the 2.5s, I had some on my old bike and they were lovely. Lovely for bunny hops and general larking around. But there's probably a downside in terms of taps or sidehops or something, I didn't notice though.

yes and they feel well nice, just they werent high enough rise for me-real nice and wide though-gonna whack them on my base, cos the fronts now too high with pures

they also felt nothing like any of the azonics ive had, but are still nice feeling bars

I'm running Zoo bars on my Ashton along with a 110mm stem and I really like them!

However they are very wide which I suppose is good for 'trialsy' style riding, but not great for street.

I have tried the Azonic Double walls aswell and they feel quite comfortable being slightly narrower than the zoo's which makes for a nice streety feel.

Bought some Azonic 1.5" rise DWs off Ali C about a month ago..

For the record.....AWSOME bars, feel so much better than any sort of wide bars like zoos IMO....

After a while you just get used to them and they feel normal, then I just ride a mates bike and get back on mine
