Dai the Socket
Just a kinda quick question.Me and my mate are thinking about going to France this summer on our motorbikes. We're both 17 and will have full Cat A motorbike licenses.Am I old enough to ride my motorbike in France? Will it need to be restricted, or does it depend on whatever the legal ages are in France for 17 year olds? Thanks.Nick
Smo™
You also need to consider learning all their road signs and brushing up on road law.
MadManMike
I know you have to be 21 to drive there, not sure about bikes though mate! Sorry!
Dai the Socket
You also need to consider learning all their road signs and brushing up on road law.Oh yeah I know that. I've been there about 12 times since I was 6 and pay quite a lot of attention to driving generally so I don't think I'd need to brush up that much, thanks though. I don't know much about their legal age limits, but I know their alcohol limits are nearly half what are "acceptable" on our roads.I think. Just think, that you've gotta be 18 with a full license then you can ride anything edit: http://driving.drive-alive.co.uk/driving-in-france.htm"Minimum age for driving, provided you hold a full UK licence, is 18 for a car and a motorcycle over 125cc and 15 for a motorcycle under 125cc." Rob_P
It would of course need to be restricted. As your going to have your bike restricted you may as well leave it that way. Espically since de-restricting a bike is relativley easy but re-restricting it is not. Plus you can't re use restrictors so you'll have to fork out another £140 odd of the hard earned. No point, plus your insurance will be invalid.Riding a motobike for long periods of time is not an easy task. Your ass hurts like you wouldn't believe When I went to Silverstone we rode about 500 miles in two days, with someone on the back, on motorways between 90-110 all the way, the vibrations are the worst.lol but im sure it'll be good fun.Shame your not 18 though eh Edited March 28, 2006 by Rob P

Al_Fel
I know you have to be 21 to drive there, not sure about bikes though mate! Sorry!Pretty sure you can drive these crasy 50cc 2 seater cars at 14?I also seem to think driving is at 16?I'm probably talking out of my arse though.Another thing to consider is if your insurance will cover you? Dai the Socket
My insurers say:All our motorcycle policies in the UK and Ireland come with Carole Nash breakdown cover, 'Green Card' cover for touring in Europe and up to £50,000 of legal protectionSo I think I'll be okay. I know their laws, but not sure to whether their foreigner laws are different.
bikerdude2006fr
Right, here are the laws over here as i have come to know them....14 + BSR(licence) = 50cc16 + ASSR(licence) = 125cc18 + ........(licence) = AnythingCars are you can start driving with an adult who has been driving over 3 years or something, and at 18 you can take your test.So if you have the correct english licence it is probably european too, so i rekon it would be cool Edited March 29, 2006 by bikerdude2004uk
