Oh The Choices

heya guys and girls,

just been thinking about getting a front cable disk for when my leeson arrives, now i've been offered by my mate a shimano deore cable disk with 180mm rotor but im not too sure on how well it'd perform. i tried out a hayes mx5 cable disk on a 160 rotor and that was fine even on a suspension fork it still locked up really well.

But this is another problem, i know that the avid bb7 is really good and heard really good things about it but would it be worth spending £80 just to get a little bit more power? post your opinions but nothing homosexual or noobish ok?

cheers (Y)

BB7s are only £59, which is a bit of a bargain, really. Unless you were adding on the price for levers 'n' stuff?

Either way, if you can, try and stretch to an Avid. They're awesome brakes straight out of the box, and they're just...well...awesome, basically :P

Is that Deore 180mm btw, or is it 185mm?

Fair enough, for aftermarket rotors I know you can get a LOT of really good 185mm rotors, whereas I'm not so sure about the 180's. Either way, the BB7 really is a lot better. The Deore ones don't seem to consistently be good, compared to the BB7s which just take it like men :P

Hmmmm cheers for the pointers anyways, i'll bear it in mind when my leeson finally gets here and will probably stretch out for the bb7 just because i know that i'll end up doing it anyway some time or another. (hate working in a bike shop, spend all my bloody money in it) haha

This a new leeson by the way built to your spec?

I use to ride with a guy that ahd a 160mm cable Deore and it was odd, load sof bit then nowt. It was a solid feeling but it gripped then would die rapidly.

Hayes i only know of one trials rider being Spoons thats runs one and he loves it. Good on DH bikes too it seams bu how many are fitted and sold

BB7 has been on this site for years, well and truly tried and tested by all. Only know of one that broke but it's a rear on a Leeson and is used by a rider thats goes big and doesn't stop till he gets it right!

The more you spend the better you get and in a disc/brake i'd want the best. Oh and you'll also get it new so if it does fail you can send it back which means you wont of waisted you hard earnt £80

Yeah the leeson is being built to my specifications, can't actually wait untill it's done, i think clive said it should be ready a round about the first week of april which isn't bad really. But yeah i can see what you mean though, i've bought an avid ultimate as my rear brake which is pretty much the best v brake you can get, so i think it'd be wise of me to get the bb7.

Ebay have a very wide range of rotors and the A2Z range come in 180mm with 5 different styled rotors to choose from, they are very good performers as well. The woollhatshop ebay shop sells a tonne of disc brake parts that are at pretty good prices £16.99 etc for a 203mm disc.

Wiggle also do a lot of 180mm rotors i think the main ones being the aztec rotors which are again very good discs.

Sammonty broke his disc, I've heard of several other people doing it too. They're even redesigning the disc, so I wouldn't say that it was an 'unlucky' thing?

There have been many "Help, my Hope is sticking" posts in Trials Chat.

There have also been "Help, my Hope is leaking" posts.
