Mototrials, anyone else ride it?

Recommended Posts

i think you will find that the 1999 and earlier and the 2002-2004 models are well known for poor quality

i ride a 2000 gasgas 280 and nothing has ever gone wrong with it and it runs lush :) been riding just over a year now :D

I have to agree with you there mate, all the pre 2000 gasgases are amazing i think they have them well sauced now though, I think all the 2005 and 2006 are pretty good and don't seem to have the gear box problems....well non of what i have heard.

I used to have a gasgas 03 200cc but then when the 125cc rule for b school boy riders came in i got a new 05 125cc beta and i love the way it rides. I think i will be sticking with betas for a while.

i beleived why the reason this happened on the 2002,2003,2004 models was the fact that gas gas tried to save as much weight as possible and this meant the durability of the parts suffered. for instance: they took as much material off the nuts and bolts as they could to save weight and if you look at the gear box on these compared to the older models they are an awful lot smaller.

obviously, they succeded in making a light weight bike, but everyone i know who owned one of these bikes killed them >_<

You should get another one, motor bike trials helps push bike trials and visa versa.

i found it was the other way round

i had been riding biketrials for a year or so before i took up moto trials and after id learned the basic controls i picked it up reasonably quickly :)

i would post some pics of me riding but i need to get this years membership pass for charltons :-

I sometimes hate mototrials riders...

As with trials, either motor or cycle, the people that do it are sound. Its like this forum for example, you can turn up in any county that has an organised ride and ride it, you've probably never met them in your life but you can get on with them.

I've riden with people before who have won Championships at all levels, some are ok, but many have that 'stuck up' personality, no doubt there are some in biketrials too, but I'm yet to see. Its the same sort of people that throw their bike around when they take a dab. They seem to think that bike skills are determined by how many awards you have in the cabinet.

Sherco and Montesa is the best after what I've heard.! I've just ride a motortrials bike 2 times (N) But, since Adam Raga is riding Gas Gas, I suges the Gas Gas isn't the worst bike after all?

Gas Gas are good bikes, the director of Gas Gas once said, in his funny Spanish voice, 'Gas Gas not made to ride offroad'. Although it seems by this comment, it was one of the most regreted things to have come out of the factory and they must have lost thousands in sales.

Gas Gas are like Monty, intended strictly for competition. Mega lightweight, but the lighter something is mate, the weaker it becomes, this doesn't mean to say they are shit bikes. Everyone slags them off and says that the frames snap and its shit craftsmanship...rubbish.

It seems to be the case that Gas Gas owners love them (obviously) and the ones who ride something else hate them...Look at any club result listings, SSDT Rider list, usually its a good 50% of Gas Gas riders, how can that many people be wrong?

If you owned a Gas Gas and it f**ked up, you wouldn't buy another one...but they still, year after year, retain the title of the most popular bike, without much decline over the past few years.

However, now things are starting to change with the introduction of 4Strokes, Montesa is the flavour of the month as they are made by Honda with more knowledge and money at disposal then any of the manufactures put together, they know engines inside-out. Honda could easily rule the world of trials, they could buy every single trials rider in the spotlight...but wheres the fun in that?

As someone said previously, Adam Raga does ride Gas Gas, but I don't think it will be for much longer. Jordi Tarres has now parted from Gas Gas after about 13 years, meaning that Adam Raga (who was trained by Jordi) had nothing to tie him down with Gas Gas.

He probably will stay with Gas Gas simply on moral grounds, but who knows...Montesa have a lot to offer, and a LOT more money than Gas Gas could ever give him.
