FoxRacer
Hi,I've been recently watching biketrials market and seen that we are going back to short frames. Everybody loves them now, even if they didn't love them compared to long ones. People are enlighted, although before change they were riding short bikes. Why is that??What are main pro's and con's of short frames? What is better to ride urban/street uci style? Isn't it long bike? As short frames are easier to run on natural, because you don't need as much power to throw the bike.Taps are easier on long bike, bunnyhops on short one, what about rest of techinques?I'm asking as I have to decide what to get. Firstly I've been thinking about czar ivan, but decided not to get it. Now I'm considering Echo Hifi and Control (but here is the problem short or long??). Problem just blows my mind, so I thought I could start debate about which is better for mainly uci street riding (or however how to call it). I know that it's mostly our preference which is better for you or me, but people are changing to short frames due to some argument. What is the content of that argument? At first I've been riding Mielec frame with wb 1050mm now I'm running koxx lb 1100 and really like it but I feel that it could be probably a bit shorter. But don't know what 'a bit' means I'm 5'7-8" so quite small. Cheers!
Mark W
I think it's largely that people are sorta going to the 'fun' sort of street people used to do (which was done on shorter frames), as opposed to the "serious" sort of street people are doing now (which is done on longer bikes). For me, longer bikes are far, far better for natural. You get a lot more stability whilst rolling, and can bridge gaps/have the ability to place the front wheel on higher rocks, plus they're just a bit easier handling on the back wheel.Anyway, it seems that the swap to shorter bikes is largely hype. It's the usual 'new' thing on TF, so you get the people doing it 'cos other people are doing it, the people doing it who say they've always done it, the people doing it 'cos they think people will think they're cool, etc Cynic...I can still remember when 1065 was considered hella long though. AAAAAAAAAAh, to be in 2002 again
the judge
I think my 1060 05 control seems to be the perfect length for me. It allows all of the long wheelbase advantages but still bunnyhops really well. I don't know what this is classed as though because it's not really 'long' is it? Joe Papasnap Maher
Yer, ive just gone from a czar 1100 to an ashton 1055?Loving every second of it....definatly hasnt got that inch seeking thril about it...but the fun factor it does have. Like tonight....had an awesome ride with todge ( on 24inch ) bunnyhops, wallrides....all streety fun stuff, and it is what i love doing most
dave33
i think 1065 is long but its the perfect length for an all round bike, longer bike are so much better for natural and you never carry and speed so no need to bunny hop or nout, but with street there is far more to ride so you want to be able to bunny hop and tap and so on you can still tap a short ish bike say the older ashton which was about 1030 wheel base but it was to short for natural, when it came to getting up steep rocks at slow speed
flipkickbs
I wouldn't call it a fashion, its just preference. Different bikes for different styles. I ride a long 04 control and am finding that a bit short now, so may get something even longer soon. Ian

Ali C
I like a bike that fits, for me my 1055 ashton seems really good, but people are all different, so frames will fit different people. I had a 1080 control and it was obvious to me that it was too big, but to some people it will be just right. Another problem is that people dont realise that frames can actually "fit" them! they just think they need a super long frame because lots of other people use them, frames shouldnt be one size fits all, you dont do it with clothes, so why do it with bikes?Anyway, when you do find a frame that actually fits, everything becomes nicer, street, bmx, natural everything is possible and you will have a huge smile on your face, I am enjoying riding more than I have ever done at the mo. yoyoyo
As long as i have a long front i don't mind. Otherwise i sometimes catch my feet on the front wheel when turning.
steve sturt
Ive never had a long bike. All the long bikes I have ridden feel really weird. They put my body weight in a really odd place. I have a Pashley 26 MHz, and it suits me fine. I can just charge into stuff on it. It taps nicely too. I ride BMX as well, which might go someway towards explaining my preferance for a short bike. trialsguru
yer ive been riding bmx all winter, then got back on my ashton (new style one) which i loved before and i found it miles too long. now im riding a megamo radical an i think im in love lolali i think youre right, once you've found 'your own' geo riding becomes fun again
PaRtZ
I think it does have a cycle, first it was short, then long bikes and now its gone back to short. Im pretty sure it'll go to long bikes again soon.Maybe its because theres too many competition riders at the moment so people think there is no point in competiting, get a street bike and then when the number of comp riders decrease, people will start buying longer bikes again?thats my conspiracy theory anyway
Vasil
I like short bikes but mine sstays are a bit oldschool(40cm) but it feesl great in manual and you can bunny hop esily with it.My wheelbase is 1040 and I think a 1065 is a length that fits beewteen street and uci style and with that you can go to comps and you can ride street as well. But look guys liek Matt Berrdige riding short bikes and doing big taps, or leech riding susps oldschool geometry and doing awesome thinks...it depends on you do not try to find problems in bike...when you feel it's okay then stay at that geo don't change cus long or short is tconsidered cool by others... FoxRacer
Uhm... it still didn't help me:(As I was considering buying second bike - 24"Street moves were never been factor which get me 'aroused' as much as specific trial moves like all the time jumping up etc. So I should pick long bike, but furter more it would be nice to link street and trials moves. it would look just much more impressive, sexual and fully pro The last thing is perfect lenght for matching humans height, which would be for moi, I guess something between 1065-1085mm WB:(I think that as it will be possibility I will try both of them, although I would prefer choosing perfect size before checking both lenghts.I'm telling bolocks (sp?), but uhh...
