Greetings
My friend found a Juicy 7 brake on an auction for about 90 pounds. This auction is due to finish tomorrow afternoon. As I have never come across one, I'm wondering if it will be powerful enough as a rear brake for a mod bike.Ridden one on a 26"/20" wheel? Did it have good locking power? Liked it? Vote Edit: forgot the disc size - 185mm// Please close Edited March 27, 2006 by Inur
dave85
Mine is rather average on the back of my bike (26" and 203 rotor), despite pad changes and whatnot it doesnt have the final locking power I'd like.
Greetings
just hope a 185mm rotor will fit into a monty frame

It feels awesome, and when I've tried bedding it in with water, it's been amazing for a few minutes. And then when it goes dry, it gets a bit rubbish. I would buy a BB7
Greetings
Don't like cable brakes on the rear. Would you say a BB7 is far better than a Juicy?
dave85
Three miles better. You just have to put up with no feedback.(actually I've noticed the same as Tomm, in the pissing wet the juicy is good, in the dry its rubbish )
Tomm
Don't like cable brakes on the rear. Would you say a BB7 is far better than a Juicy?I don't really understand. A Juicy with the same pads (and perhaps rotor) as the BB7 would be amazing. I'm not quite sure why they have different pads, but I'm pretty sure that they do. So I would say that a BB7 is better, yeah. Plus loads cheaper Although I might experiment with pads and stuff on the Juicy.
Greetings
So why have people been voting 100% "Yes"? I'm lost

Tomm
So why have people been voting 100% "Yes"? I'm lostWell I would probably vote no, although I dunno. If you carry water round with you all the time, it'll be great. But I'd probably just go with the BB7 if you must have a disc.
Greetings
Well if my calculations are correct, a 185mm rotor on a 20" wheel will deliver 23.3% more power than an 8" rotor on a 26" wheel. Sounds prommising. Do you think it's worth getting a Hope Trials then?
dave33
i think it would be best getting the hope trials brake or the magura marta
Greetings
The negative opinions from Tomm, dave85 and dave33 are IMO well justified and somewhat more convincing than 90% positive feedback. Will get a Hope Trials from Tarty then, ooh my poor wallet
Siders77
Well I would probably vote no, although I dunno. If you carry water round with you all the time, it'll be great. But I'd probably just go with the BB7 if you must have a disc. I don't see why you're having trouble with yours to be honest. When I had mine it was awesome. Locked when I wanted it to and modulated nicely, too. It worked just as good in the wet as it did in the dry. Even when I changed rotors I felt no difference in the power. How did you bed yours in first? When I did mine I rode around dragging the brake then put the water on. Most people do it the other way round I think. Maybe that's why? I would say go for the Juicy, it's a really nice brake when it's set up properly. I think it would work really well on the back of your bike. Especially 185mm, I thought my 160mm was powerful enough, Haha. EDIT: Nooooooo, don't get the Mono Trial it's a waste of money imo, it feels way to spongey. Have a search for some reviews on here, I did one so did Sam@SouthTrials. Edited March 27, 2006 by Siders77

A spongy lever is probably good as far as modulation goes.
wolfie
Made the right choice, I had two Avid Juicy 5's in the space of a month as the pistons kept pissing out hydraulic fluid and contaminating the pads. I know its not quite the Juicy 7, but I'd never buy another Avid hydraulic brake for trials. Got a hope now and its awesome.Wolfie Edited March 28, 2006 by wolfie

Will get a Hope Trials from Tarty then, ooh my poor wallet I would get a BB7. 1/3 the price and just as good as a Hope, really. How did you bed yours in first? When I did mine I rode around dragging the brake then put the water on.That's what I did, because when I had my BB7, it never needed any water or whatever, it only took a few minutes of hopping around. But the Juicy hasn't been the same. It's just not got the nice grabbiness of the BB7, which I liked. Meh.
