fruitbat
very simple question, how easy is it to replace a king freehub and do i need any particular tools for the job or can it be done with normal tools? Reason i ask is i have fooked my ali one and wanna fit a steel one but wondering how easy it is as i have never had to do it.Frooty
MrSuave
peice of piss my man, just buy the steel one (good idea btw), take your hub apart via the allen key bolts on the axles and slowly twist and pull the old freehub body out, remove the cassette first though, remove axle and put it in the new one, then give your new one a touch of king lube or whatever lube you prefer , then insert while twisting slowly and when it locates youll hear an audible 'click', preload bearings and tighten the axle and away you go you can always have a look here:www.chrisking.com - in the tech section i belive. Janson
You just need to take the axle off.For normal axle, insert a 5mm allen key in each axle end, undo the axle end, remove the bearing preload adjuster, pull the axle out, then just pull the freehub out. With the HD axle, you need to undo the pinch bolt on the preload adjuster on the axle, with a 3/32" allen key, unscrew it from the axle, pop axle out and pull the freehub body off.Easy. Al_Fel
you also need to swap the bearings in the freehub body which requires the use of a king tool. I've poped a couple of the bearings aprat too which takes a fair bit of fiddling to get them back together.
Danny
As anal said im pretty sure your new one wont have any internals in it. So these require swapping over.
ScotchDave
Yep, you definitely need to swap the bearings from the old to new, and it's a job that needs a kingtool.
lewis
ye the axel will just push out and then you need to take the lock nut out of the freehub body. you dont really need to use the chris king tool i just used a pair of long nose pliers and opened them up and twisted it out that way. then just take the washers and bearing out and put them in your new one. it's all pretty striaght forward even i can do it.p.s i live in leeds so if you want me to do it for you just let me no cheers..
