Anyone know about coust backings? where can one find them?

You mean coust pad's? The backings are either magura standard, power pad (same as maggie standard really) or the heatsink backing's....

It seems from the post above that there all available direct from steve for those of us in the uk.....

Or from Felix. He was charging 1 euro per 10mm, so it was 12 euros incl. P&P for 2 50mm blocks, which works out as £8.28. Pretty much unbeatable. You've got to cut it down yourself, but I managed to do mine in about 15 minutes with a Stanley knife. They're pretty easy to cut (Y)

One 50mmx10mmx10mm block will do one Powerpad backing, so you get enough for a pair of pads.

Either way, cheaper than doing it any other way?

I made up mine, and didn't really like them. They seem to be more hype than anything, and the "My pads are wearing quickly" stories that are floating around haven't really done much to change my mind.

Ah well, I'll just keep on using the pads I know which are awesome, although no-one else seems to accept it 'cos they're not home-made, and therefore can't be

It's Felix Muecke (sp?) from Germany (I think he is, anyway... pretty sure).

They're a piece of piss to cut and fit. You just cut a basic "T" shape, and that's it, really. The sticky out bit of the T needs to be the same width and length of the Magura backing. You mash the little inside blocks at each end out of the backing, and a cut a little bit out of the material so it clears the centre of the backing. I'll post up a pic of a piece of material I have here in a sec. It really is easy to do though, contrary to popular belief...

And, as promised, the backing. Note the rough edges - I did it totally freehand just holding the pad upright and using my other hand to wield my work knife. It was a piece of piss to do, you just apply pressure and it slices through it really easily. They're simple to make, so why not give it a go yourself, really. I'd never cut a pad to fit before, so it's not like it's rocket science, basically. Just buy some glue and you're sorted.
