also sorry for giving you a beard.

i would jump from where the arrow is. sorta like roll a bit and jump but because of this i cant get big gaps.

i have been practising it but i just fall of edge when i jump and dont get no where.

I've also been trying to change my technique to go from the edge.

I think its more important to do a little hop and really push downwards before you gap, as it makes you spring forwards more. Look for onzaboymarks tutorial as i found that pretty helpful.

What i do its just boon till i get in the correct postion keeping one eye on the place i think will be correct. Wait till you can start to feel your tyer crease a tiny amount. Then sorta one big hop on the edge and kick like a b*****d using the tyer compression and my kick power to propell me.

Hope ive helped...

I was about to say, as bucky has. Just go out and do gaps on rails. Because when you gap off rails you have no choice but to go off the edge. You will soon learn to feel where your wheel is in regards to the edge.

Preload = Engage your hub and push your pedals hard against the brake so that when you release the brake, all your power is applied in one single motion rather than slower. Sometimes if your not preloading you will roll slightly and this may be the reason you are having trouble going off edges.

Gives you a nice short sharp kick. :) also before you kick push your tyre onto the wall so you get alot of bounce when you take off.

I tried to learn from day one pinchgaps, just makes life easier and more cofortable when it comes to rails :)

Ill ive found is pause hop till your tyres kinda on the edge, then a preety fair sized boon will fit you on the corner perfect, then kick, and push upwards, taking the bike with you.

Try that :)

Basically as the others have said, just preload downwards and backwards hard whilst the tyre is on the edge, so it gives you the spring and correct body movement to get across the gap. If you do this you should notice a big improvement in your gaps straight away. (Y)

I also have problems with my gapping, I can't do over 6ft without being really, rim dentingly harsh, and i am on just over 7ft when i go for my record length gaps

when i get home i have to use the adjustable spanner to straighten out the dents, and this is with a ronnie!

EDIT:Its just pissing me off really, and i just can't get them working well, im smooth at rolling gaps, but not static

all harsh gaps are from my static gaps

thats the thing, i can't. im smooth till 6ft, then it just goes shit. if i try to be smooth i don't get anywhere, but if im harsh i go further, but its nasty.

Just keep practicing dude, u see me gaping in Pompey last saturday, twas like utterly butterly smooooooth :)

As to the tips on gapping from the edge, it does take quite abit of practice to make sure u know where exactly to take off from, as if u are to close to the edge u will just roll off, and too far back from the ledge and the idea of using the preasure in the tyre to help with the gap is lost......

So just keep practicing, it will come with time :)
