Shez.sheridan
Okay, my problem is two fold.1. When I bought my Monty, the lever body had been worn a little from the blade on the front Marta disc; i don't know whether it's related, but over the last few weeks when I brake the biting point has moved a lot closer to the bars - however, when I turn the bike upside down & pump the brake 2-3 times..the biting point moves back to it's original place until I stop using it for a few hours - odd?Anyone have any ideas (could also be to do with the pads?)2. As the topic says...do they do sintered (or red pads as they used to be on my old xc4 disc) for the marta disc, and if so, does anyone know where? Thanks in advance people..Derv. Al_Fel
I find magura discs never keep the same bite point its always changing. one second it will pull to the bar pump it up a bit and it will be back to where you want it. I think its just the way they are.
anzo
I use a hope brake, but I had a simular problem, to this day I'm still not quite sure what the cause was, but I assume it was just worn pads.My brake all of a sudden went shit, I had to pump the lever really quick and the break could come out, last about half and hour with regular use and then go shit if I stopped.I bled the brake again, and when I opened the bleed nipple to pump the oil, I opened it and it sprayed all over me, so for it to do that there must have been a heavy build up of air in the system (so it became pressuried).I bled it all out, cleaned the brake, new pads...no problems.Brakes are a pain in the arse, 99% of problems can be fixed by just bleeding it again...sort of a 'reset' for them. Can't hurt to try.
Lee Cable
I had exactly the same problem with my magura clara. Just do a rebleed and it will be fine! From Lee
shovel
pretty sure aztec make disc pads for maguras, their pads come in two varieties, enduro or hardcore. the hardcore ones being the sintered. ebc might make pads for maguras, if so they have their 'red' compound which are very grippycheck with your local bike shop, sure they'll have more info on both of the above
ogre
Whats a sintered pad?
shovel
slightly harder compund which is more metal based than organic pads and so gives more bite but don't last so long
dave33
DO NOT USE SINTERTED PADS IN A MARTA WILL MRLT THE PISTONS. ORGANIC ONLY
danny B
i know that magura themselves do a performance pad if you ask for them because that is what i used to use in the front on my marta......
dave33
koolstop make some nice pads for the marta, dunno where you can buy them though
nmt_oli
slightly harder compund which is more metal based than organic pads and so gives more bite but don't last so longSintered pads actually last longer.DO NOT USE SINTERTED PADS IN A MARTA WILL MRLT THE PISTONS. ORGANIC ONLY Yes, sintered pads increase heat build up in the brake, but you would really have to be giving it some to melt pistons! im sure you would boil the fluid off long before it got hot enough for that!In trials use you dont tend to get disks hot anyway as your not dragging them for long periods of time. dave33
the pistons in the marta are plastic so yes you would melt the pistons or at vaery least the seals, i know its gonna be used for trials but they will still get hot if the bike is used to travel from riding spots
