Is It Worth Grinding Your Rims?

Recommended Posts

its got its pro's and cons

good things are you can ride in the damp/pissing wet and its pretty great at giving you nice bite and hold

however say goodbye to manuals and brake modulation , grinds do on and off

but you use tar so it wont really matter

it also depends on what pads and rim you have

as all pads can work well with tar but most just die on a grind

its up to you , you proably wont regret it if you try

think about it this way....

tar costs.... gridning costs once.... unless you do a DIY

I use alot of tar which i have troubel getting hold of to be honst....

but grinding in about £2 off tartybikes or sandpaper or you dad's electric grinder and your done in 5 minuites (Y)B)

grinding does work well, i used to do it but got lazy so i just used melted road on me rim now because i'm a v brake rider so theres plenty of tension to pull the pads back off the rim.

as for manuals, it'll make you better at them because you'll have to learn to do them using ur body weight rather than feathering the brake. Far better

go for a grind.feels weird at first because its not as snappy stopping as tar,but it holds so much better.awsome modulation, manuals are better, works in the wet, unlike tar which goes slick! just make sure u get an even grind all the way round,i suggest practising on an old rim, anything will do.
