planet x alan
hi all. it has got to the point where i am sick of pinch flats. i am running downhill tube at 50psi and quite often if i dont quite make that gap or if i dont quite get high enough on an up i can hear the worst sound ; the hissing of my back tyre going down. any other way of preventing this???much appreciated Edited March 20, 2006 by planet x alan

flipkickbs
DUAL PLY TYRE!!!!!!!!!Ian
the judge
That's about it, if you're using a dh tube and a dual ply maxxis tyre it's about the best puncture protection you can get. So I suppose the only other option would be to become smoother????
planet x alan
any way of getting hold of a moto x tube that will fit?
the judge
No idea, but I imagine it would weigh a ton
planet x alan
im not too bothered about weight anymore i will try to get hold of one
Jaffacakes
Just wrap a old innertube around your new innertube and problem solved.I run about 10psi with tryall tyres and i have no problems
Krisboats
Its actually easier to pinch it if the tyre pressure is higher, I tried pumping my tyre up a lot and got 3 punctures in one day, let some air out to about 25 psi and i havn't had one since. 50 psi sounds a bit too hard anyway mate. Bend your knees when you land?
CurtisRider
talc those tubes up, it allows the tubes to move independantely on the tyre(otherwise they seem to just stick)also i agree with kris, too hard a tyre and it seems to get worsei havent pinched a tube in a year or so, and i run standard tubes with maxxis minion supertacky/dmr moto digger and rim my backwheel pretty badly atm i run between 15 and 25 psi and its still fine however when i started i ran 40psi and pinched all the time, and i wasnt hitting stuff all that hard... TomN
Shove some chalk around the inside of your tyre, and shove another tyre inside I never got a punture with two tyres inside..
plazermen
Use michelin's synthetic rubber (nylon) innertube. Its twice safer for pinchflats than the natural rubber one and 8 x better for not loosing air.
Davetrials
im not too bothered about weight anymore i will try to get hold of oneWHy not just buy a maxxis downhil or swable?
Connor
you can buy 2 of them maxxis downhill tubes off ebay for £9 posted Edited March 21, 2006 by Snowy
Bionic Balls
another vote for talc here...pump it in!but beware that your brake will die..until you get all the talc off the rim (i recommend a spray of muc-off then ride around brake half on till it feels like dandy)..adam
hill_393
I think the easiest way would be to learn to de weight the back wheel. On a small kerb or something, try gapping from longer and longer distances, and trying to land as soft as possible but trying to take the weight off your feet, and take the impact through the rest of your bodyDarren
Mooore!
or if yer minted, go tubeless. Cant pinch flat a tube that doesn't exist. A few companies do downhill wheels & tubeless tyres so i reckon they'd probably do the trick.
Mr-BT
If you want to stop pinch flats try the old trick of putting a slightly thinner tyre with no tread and no bead on the inside of your normal tyre, it does work but it adds weight, nick

Mooore!
passed ur bad luck my way, it took me 45mins to walk home today after the 2nd pinch flat in 2 rides. As they say...sh1t happens.

At first you'll feel like your rimming out if you really give it some which you kind of are but its not that big of a deal and eventually you'll get used to it. mad dan
The best way to stop getting pressure punchers is to put some more air in your tyres.
