Location Of "my Music" Folder

Recommended Posts

To keep my computer free from crap and running shweeeeeet i have all my music and other files stored on an external USB hard drive. Now if you go to "My Music" the location is "C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\My Music"

Is it possible to change the location of this folder so it points to my external hard drive? It would save me having to go to my computer then Local Disk F: etc.

If someone has the answer reet bonus.

Cheers, Stu (Y)

Stu, im sure it is possible! Ahh i have got it! Download the trial version of Ashampoo PowerUp XP Platinum 2. On this program you can change the destination of most of the windows "shortcuts". Hope this helps

Is that the Lee with the 106 quicksilver ? If not don't worry im just curious.

Hobnobs, Yeah the shortcut to the desktop option is the easiest way but right clicking the link of "my music" gives me no option to change the target. Im running windows XP and it gives me the options of "general" or "sharing" which dont help.

Might not be worth doing if i need to install some extra software for it.

cheers, stu (Y)

If you right-click the link on the start menu, I think you can change it, as people have said. You get a different menu if you right click c:/docs and settings/blah/user/my music if you see what I mean. So try both. But you can definitely do it because I have my documents set to d:\ :)

(Although that is on XP Pro)
