Hobnobs
Might as well, if you know how then theres no reason not to. Else, use the time to earn some money and save for a tensile freewheel
mat hudson
i say yes, my acs startted to skip last week, it stopped but did it once today aswell, its been through 2 bikes one using front freewheel and is getting on a bit for an acs. good lubings kept it working for quite some time. Walleee
Unless your fairly conpetent I wouldn't bother cos you could end up screwing up your bike to the point where you'd need to take ti to a shop. If you've got a spare freewheel lying around and a freewheel removal tool go for it as you can allways throw on the spare if it all goes wrong. It's puttijng it back together rather than taking it apart which is hardest, trying to get all the bearing's in without them falling out the other side isn't easy, it is possible to only put about half the bearings back in, but it's not going to work aswell(or as long perhaps) as one would with all the baring's replaced.I'd inititally try spraying it throughly with wd40 to clean out any shitty grease. TomN
Yeah I say go for it plus if you do mess up, easily get another ACS for cheaps...
Josephine
It actually works quite a bit better without all the BBs back in, but it won't last as long as you said. Putting the BBs back in isn't too much of a problem just apply a thin bead of grease to the inside and stick them to it Joe Unless your fairly conpetent I wouldn't bother cos you could end up screwing up your bike to the point where you'd need to take ti to a shop. Mooore!
Do it, the grease gets sticky & the pawls stop releasing so open her up flush er out, re grease and put back together. Hey presto new freewheel.
Walleee
Aye, but the grease ends up getting dirty again, I just put a wee bit of chain lube in with the bearings. It's cheap to get another one, but you need to consider wether you have the fund's time to go to your bike shop and get a new one before you plan to ride next. Also you'll need a freewheel tool otherwise you'll have to pay a shop to do it for you.....
Bionic Balls
you don't need a freewheel tool....you can do it still on the crank just take your time...when everything's in place, i used to spray some wd40 in to thin the grease a bit..lovely..adam
anzo
Yes, you can do it on the crank still, although if you have a swear box, buy the time you've cleaned your freewheel out, you could buy a better one.
