Hobnobs
Is the bolt coming loose? If so, locktite it? Or just give it some pasty. Edited March 20, 2006 by Hobnobs

Janson
I think i will give the bearing preloader thingy a bit of force with a screwdriver or something.. clean it off before so it wont slip.bearing play = weird noises! dave33
when you do the small ellen key up does the collar close up ?
James_Porter
dont do do the collor up to tight though cause it will make the hub skip.
Janson
so should there be any play in the bearing at all? ive done it up a bit tighter than before, should go ride tomorrow to see if it works loose. hopefully not!
Hobnobs
There shouldnt be any play, but you dont wanna overtighten the collar itself. The bolt to hold it in place can be as tight as you want (up to a point obviously)
dave33
sounds like the threads on the axle or collar are worn after comming lose all the time

nb88
When my standard axle cone kept coming loose i just cleaned the whole hub out and it stopped it says in the manual to not loctite it.
Greetings
My BMX hub does exactly the same, it's driving me up the wall This is apparently due to it being fairly new. Should stop after it's bed in though. How long have you had it?

MrSuave
my first king did this and theres a very simple fix which was shown to me by the top mechanic at evolution imports/brompley bike co who are the UK importor for king stuff. basically you need to overtighten the cone on the non drive side a touch so that when it is all back together the bearings bind slightly then once ridden, the bearings become free spinning and the cone doesn't come loose. no need for loctite or such.this is taken from the king website, i draw your attention to item 4 :Rear hub adjustmentThe following instructions assume that the drive shell is facing to the right:1. Insert 5 mm hex wrenches into both ends of the axle assembly.2. Hold left hand stationary and turn right hand counterclockwise 1/4 turn untilthe assembly is loose.3. Hold hex wrenches stationary and adjust bearing preload with the adjustingcone. You may use the hub cone adjusting tool if necessary.4. Advance adjusting cone until it contacts bearing. The rear hub takes a slightlyhigher amount of preload than “no play”, since some settling may occur whileriding.5. Once preload is set, tighten axle assembly together to 100 inch-pounds.6. Check adjustment by clamping wheel into frame with quick-release. Ride for5-10 minutes, check for play or binding, and readjust as necessary. Double9check adjustment after the first 5-10 miles of riding. hope this helps. Tommo.
