Concussion
When you land, stick your arse out a bit more/arms straight to balance the bike. Watch a vid of yourself...that will help you! Goodluck!

petit_pablo
Hang your weight back further and practise.U should with some practise be able to pretty much just balance stationary whilst on the rear wheel
IOLO
your probably not either leaning back enough, or kiking your pedals enough because your scared of falling over backwards and landing on your back.soo, lean back more, and pedal a bit harder, and it will work great, from there you will learn proper controland will b able to stay there as long as u want,(u may well fall onto your back learnign this) but come on, who cares, pain is temporary!make sure your back brak eis working well, and you should b fine, hope that helps..iolo
Jez
learn the no. 1 bailing requirement: looping out (if you haven't already). If you start going backwards, just jump off the back of the pedals and keep hold of the bars. Then you can practice doing what the hell you want without fear of going off the back (assuming your rear brake is ok).The problem you're probly having is that your hops start to speed up the further you, which means you need to hop further each time, right? Basically you need to learn to a) lean back more and push the back wheel forwards as you hop (extend your legs - slow mo/pause a video of someone doing a huge gap to see an exaggerated version of this). Learn to do one pedalhop at a time and then regain control so you can hop stationary again. THEN add another, regain control, another, etc etc.Like someone said, ain't no substitute for practice. These things don't come quickly (although with some moves you find that one day they just 'click' and you can do it, but that's rare).Hope I'm not talking out of my arse here.
