Lee Cable
erm.....pedalhop!From Lee
the judge
Try experimenting with different speeds, taking off closer to or further away from the obstacle, and putting more 'oomph' into it.
Lee Cable
ok thanks, i shall try tomorrow as it is a bit late now! thanks!
the judge
No problemos, glad to help. Probably be best to get some more views though as I'm not too good at backwheeling myself.
Ben Geary
Go a little faster and jump right up to the stem, when you get better at them try putting a front tap in to them, then you will be flying up.

Krisboats
Go a little faster and jump right up to the stem, when you get better at them try putting a front tap in to them, then you will be flying up.Don't jump up to the stem, you want to pull the stem towards your waist at the same time as putting a little pedal stroke in there. As you feel the bikes front wheel get to about its maximum height you want to push the bars forwards and upwards at the same time (your elbows should be about the same height level as your chin) as jumping upwards and bending your knees. When the back wheel touches the wall/object push the bars forwards even more and try to stand up... eventually you will get the hang of it. It will most likely take longer than a week though. Here's what i meanLittle clipSee the pedal stroke to help get the front wheel up, then pulling the bars towards the waist at the same time as extending the legs, then pushing the bars forwards and upwards (elbow to chin height roughly) The forwards momentum should slowly lean you forwards at which point you will be able to easily stand up whilst still on the back wheel. These pictures were taken from trashzen.com which has detailed descriptions on how to do pretty much everything in trials and has been almost a holy bible of trials for some riders. Lee Cable
ok thanks, been a great help! and yea, i understand that it will take alot longer than a week, but i would like to get different views of it, and try and improve my own technique, and about riding with someone better than myself. I ride with pauloliver. But he lives like 15 miles away, so i try and ride alot on my own! Thanks to all that have helpedLee

nafan
Go a little faster and jump right up to the stem, when you get better at them try putting a front tap in to them, then you will be flying up.I have problems with hopping up myself, just can't seem to get it. I've been riding ages and I'm stuck at about 2 ft. aswell....When you say "jump right up to the stem" do you mean that you have to lean forwards before you hop. I've always wondered whether that would help...Cheers, Nathan
Dr. Nick Riviera
you want to thrust your pelvis towards your stem as you're putting in the pedal stroke so that you get the upwards motion. its tricky but once you've tried it a few times you will understand. Trials Boy
I found out that leaning back futher, going faster and taking off not as close to the wall helped a lot. I've improved so much over the last month!
poopipe
if you're stuck at 2 ft you need to tuck more.your body gets you the height - not the bike, you pull the bike up afterwards. the restof it is about getting your distances rightwhether you pedal up, bunnyhop or tap you just have to go faster, pull up later and tuck like a bitch. The lemonade man
When pedalling up wouldn't it be better to go slower so the pedal gets you more thrust?
poopipe
When pedalling up wouldn't it be better to go slower so the pedal gets you more thrust?sort of - but too slow and you dont get enough forward momentum. Im not saying ride at it full tilt - but approach like you really mean it - u know, hard enough to hurt.
mat hudson
you get to a stage where you have to change your technique to get higher, its a c*nt.

Luke Drewery
Right, in four steps this is how I do it (without a tap);1-Approach the obstacle quite fast, too fast and you will lose composure mid air, too slow and you wont make it up, unless your a powerhouse. Crouch a little, so you can explode up. Have your wrong foot up, so you can do a 3/4 pedal stroke before you hop (this varies from person to person).2-Pedal whilst pulling up on the bars quite hard, the key thing here for me is to get the front wheel really steep before hopping, so you can land on the backwheel easier and stay on it when on top.3-Lift the bike and maintain the angle that you had when you pulled the front end up so you can land on top nicely.4-This is key, push the bike forward and upwards as hard and fast as you can so that you can gain maximum height and stay on the back wheel when you have landed. I only pull the back brake the moment before I land so that if necesary my back wheel can roll up the object that extra cm.Here is a little picture that might help;[attachmentid=2875] Edited March 19, 2006 by scunnytrials
