Magura Problem!

STEVE-0

Recommended Posts

At thrifwood comp, i fell off and fooked me back brake....

Today while looking at it, i re-bled it and everythin was hunky-dory.

When i looked at my brake lever, something was different...i could work out why my lever was all slack. I took off the lever and i could see the master cylinder that moves when you pull the brake was crushed down the bottom. I yanked it out using some pliers and the piston thing inside looks dead, wont move. I think i need a new lever.

Despite that, my main problem, i took apart my other lever (that was working fine) to see what was the difference was. I pulled out this seal thingy (master cylinder, i think) and loads of oil came out and when i put it back together my brake hardly moved and the lever went down to the bars. But the oil wasnt brake fluid! because i have water :$ .

WHATS WRONG?

Thanks for your time

Steve

You think thats it?

<_<

Ill try tomoz....just to make sure. Only water anyways.

I'm guessing so, if oil came out, then I guess air got in.

Could be wrong though.

Might aswell try it (Y)

Atleast I'm not the only one who's rear Magura's playing up

On the mention of maguras is it normal that one pad returns further than the other? or do i have a spastic magura :shifty:

no u dont, it does happen, usually with older brakes though, if u could (which u cant) u should pop the pistons out and clean them up to feck, but u cant

Ne ways, to get ur piston out of the master cyclinger, undo the 8mm spanner shroud nut and remove the hose and also take out the 3mm bleed nipple

u will have 2 tiny acess holes into the master cyclinder from the other end than the lever

u need to grab 1 or 2 small allen keys (1.5mm ish) and push them agains the piston through the bleed and hose holes, this will push it al the way out

Clean up with Hot Soapy water, *degreser if u have ne* then re-fit with the spring in first and the piston facing so the crator *not pin* is showing outwards. Dont press too hard, it will go to the bottom again and get stuck

Not a good idea to pull a piston out of a closed hydraulic system and expect it to back in and all be ok. It was probably oil because when you bled it some oil got trapped in the master cylinder. Don't forget, oil floats on water.

errrm

ne ways, if u do what i said u be reet (Y)
