What version of Windows will you be using? If it's XP then you don't need to. Just put the CD in when you start the computer and boot from that. It'll give the option of formatting then.

Oh, and because I can't be bothered to reply in the other thread, with Windows XP, you can't get the DOS prompt up properly, without some boot disks. But like I say, you don't need to anyway.

tomm how do i do that go to boot device thing in cmos and do that

when i do that it doesnt work for some reason :S

DAN

Yeah, you need to go into the BIOS settings (press delete etc) and set the first boot device to CD-ROM, if it's not already.

And then just save, exit and put the CD in the drive and reset the computer.

Buy it :)

haaah!

damn right, you deserve everything you get for stealing windows. You can get a legal OEM copy of XP pro for £90 if you buy it with a hard drive, CPU or other major computer part so there's no excuse.

however, in the meantime

try mashing f8 while windows is starting and pick safe mode with command prompt

it might let you run format c: from there - if not, it might let you run the windows installer from the CD which will allow the format (probably).

If Microsoft weren't so f**king useless on the phone then I wouldn't think twice about buying it.

- possibly the finest excuse for stealing software i've ever heard. :P

Why would you want to phone them up ? You can buy it from the shops.

Edited so it can be understood. :$

I changed some bits in my PC including the case. I didn't realise that the case had the serial number on. When I started the PC up it asked me to put my serial in but I didn't have it because I got rid of the case a few weeks earlier.
