Tomm
What version of Windows will you be using? If it's XP then you don't need to. Just put the CD in when you start the computer and boot from that. It'll give the option of formatting then. Oh, and because I can't be bothered to reply in the other thread, with Windows XP, you can't get the DOS prompt up properly, without some boot disks. But like I say, you don't need to anyway. roozor
If you're installing Win 2000 or Win Xp just boot from the actuall CD.If not, use Fdisk from dos

Tomm
tomm how do i do that go to boot device thing in cmos and do that when i do that it doesnt work for some reason DANYeah, you need to go into the BIOS settings (press delete etc) and set the first boot device to CD-ROM, if it's not already. And then just save, exit and put the CD in the drive and reset the computer. tomturd
Some copies of windows just arent bootable, and you need to get a different one which is bootable or use boot disks to get it to boot.

Swize
Buy it
poopipe
Buy it haaah!damn right, you deserve everything you get for stealing windows. You can get a legal OEM copy of XP pro for £90 if you buy it with a hard drive, CPU or other major computer part so there's no excuse.however, in the meantime try mashing f8 while windows is starting and pick safe mode with command promptit might let you run format c: from there - if not, it might let you run the windows installer from the CD which will allow the format (probably). br3n
you obviously cant format using MSdos Prompt as its a part of windows. (not run > cmd)
Danny
Windows XP / 2000 dont even has Dos full stop. All they have is command prompt which just simulates it.Anyway as everyones said before get a proper bootable copy of xp.

Why would you want to phone them up ? You can buy it from the shops.
Siders77
When I had a problem with XP they didn't seem interested, The call ended in "Well I'll just go download it then, cheers" Haha.
biketrialler
if you were phoning their support line why would you download it because surely you'd already have a legit copy anyway?
Siders77
Edited so it can be understood. :$ I changed some bits in my PC including the case. I didn't realise that the case had the serial number on. When I started the PC up it asked me to put my serial in but I didn't have it because I got rid of the case a few weeks earlier. biketrialler
lol. what did you expect them to be able to do about that then?
Siders77
I don't know. That's why I rang them. To see if there was anything they could do to....I dunno.....Recover my serial or something. It was a last resort thing. They were no help at all and I could hardly understand what the bloke was saying.
