Right guys....i've seen that there's alot of people here, bein a newbie i want to get to know you all,so was wanting to know what every one started out on.....was it a complete bike you bought or did you plunge in and custom build it.

Also what was the first upgrade you bought for it??

Mine was Saracen Mad 03' and basically swapped evrything over from an old diamondback jump bike i had sitting in my shed for a few months.

First upgrade was a rear deore hub on a D521 ceramic rim which i bought for 20 pounds!! (now i think about it,that was quite cheap)LOL

thankyou

Ben

Started on a black Gary Fisher Marlin (big steel entry-level XC bike, probly a 17" or 18" frame) back in '99 or something, first upgrade was a new pair of cheapass chromo forks when I cracked the existing ones. I think the next thing was upgrading to a pair of my mate's old Alivio canti's from my Acera X set. He'd just bought the new-fangled LX V-brakes Shimano brought out, so being skint, I had his old cantis off him for a fiver :)

My first trials-specific bike was when I finally replaced the Gary Fisher frame with an unbranded Heavy Tools ripoff frame and got a proper bashguard, put LX V's on it and got a wider pair of bars and some decent forks. It was still at least a 14" frame though.

wow!.... hearing about all these old bikes just makes my first trials bike look and sound proper old school. i had the 2000 onza t-bird pretty much completely standard apart from avid 7 v brakes, which sucked! due to the cables always stretching. here is a picture of the beast from back in the day.IPB Image

This bike didn't last very long after a few hard sessions

Peace out and trial hard !!

Hi,

My first bike was a Da-bomb pro magura it was a good bike for a beginner and held up well. My first investment in the Da-bomb was a new stem (T-Master). Now i have a new bike it's a Gu Typhoon it's so ace!

Thanks mate from Stuart.

mine was a raliegh swampthing, it was actually a dual slalom bike with triple clamps and everything, put a bassguard on it as soon as i got it, was using that for a while then got a gt tempest (21.5" version) which had rigid gt cromo forks (flextastic) and rode on that till that bust. then quit for a few years then got a saracen mad 2.6 upgraded heavily now im getting a leeson clear 660

Black and gold t-rex, was great, main upgrade was to the front end, some new light forks with a front lx v brake and a wheel that i robbed off my xc bike. It was a mavic 138 with a hub that had formula written on it. It doesn't compare to my new t-rex though!
