ok its almost finished just awaiting my frame.

anyway im posting to find out,

isis bb can you screw them on by hand and use them like that or will they be to loose?

will it make much of a difference if its a little bit loose?

on the rear of the gu will i be able to put my old t-master chain tensioners on them?

would appreciate pictures or any information and i will try post up some pics when its built.

can somebody also explain how the other tensioners work? the snail ones.

The bb will be way loose and rip out all your threads, It's got to be super tight.

I think the GU can only take snail cams not chain tug's aswell (Y) .

The BB, as Jaffa said, needs to be REALLY tight, hand tight and it will just come loose and ruin your frame and the bottom bracket will also be screwed.

I think you can use the tugs, not sure...I dont see why not.

Snail cams are an oval shape, with notches on them. The cams themselves take the place of your tugs (put them onto the hub bolts) and as you turn the cam, the notches make contact with the bolt on the frame, thus forcing the wheel out and tensioning the chain.

As the cam is oval...as such, the more you turn it the further the wheel pulls away and the tighter the chain becomes. Genral idea is you turn the cam on the CHAIN SIDE of the bike, until you find the needed tension, and then count how many notches youve gone past, and say for example you're on the 5th notch (4 spare, 5th being the notch the bolt is on) you move the non-chain side cam to the 5th notch and then tighten the hub bolts.

Although with snail cams, looking at the tryall ones, they dont appear to have ANY notches, which is just...shit, and makes getting a true, equal tension a pain in the arse. But its basically the same concept, you just need to make sure the cams are equal in position.

anzo's explanation of how snailcams work is grand.

The only thing I'd add is to tighten your axle nuts by switching sides every turn or so rather than doing one up and then moving onto the other - with snailcams the wheel is more likely to slide about in the dropout while you tighten than with standard chaintugs.

The smooth snailcams aren't as hard to set up as I was expecting - they're no worse than standard chaintugs in terms of lining things up.
