anzo
There seems to be a lot of people being f**ked about lately. Personally, I don't mind purchasing things on TF as long as I get regular communication, if they don't come on here all that often I get nervous about it.As with the References post, we can make sure they are trustworthy sellers/buyers. But how about a more reliable system? What about if people sent their personal details to the Admin which is then kept on record for any references, the amount of times I ask people for some contact phone numbers and they never ever reply with one and obviously, I can't afford to not send the payment on time (due to waiting for a phone number) otherwise they'll be on this thread probably giving me a bad name, which isn't fair on behalf of the buyer when all their trying to do is secure their purchases. If it were a forum rule that you must supply details to TF before being allowed to sell, I, and I'm sure many others would feel more comfortable. Obviously, fake address may be given, to avoid, insist that HOME phone numbers are given and then validated. Most of the sellers on here are about 15 or so, so if you have a home number, you can talk to mummy and daddy about it all. When a complaint is made that the product/payment hasn't been sent, you can contact the admin and request the details on the seller. Job done.Obviously, to avoid any lawsuits against Data Protection, make them agree to terms and conditions that their details may be distributed in the situation of a complaint. Simple. I know its not the responsibly of TF to protect its users against scams or cheeky bastards, and they do buy things at their own risk. But whats wrong with making its users (that make the forum what it is) a little more comfortable with sales? nb88
Sounds OK but also sounds like loads of work for the admins who probably dont have the time. I'd say just dont buy anything to anyone dodgy/with no references, and ask for their phone number etc yourself. Selling stuff isnt too bad as they cant really rip you off. tomturd
Alternatively read the guidelines at the top of for sale/wanted, which say -Buyers: Ensure you get the sellers phone number and details. Make sure the phone number works (give them a ring!). Mark wanted topics with WTD. Plus theres no way I have time to get everyones contact details on here and verfiy they work.. Mark W
Notice though how a lot of the people being ripped off have been ripped off by people who have bad references already, or are in NMC? We could still supply phone numbers on demand, but people would still be stupid and deal with dickheads/people in NMC, won't they? You could have every bit of info about someone that you could possibly get, but if they're one end of the country and have your money and don't want to answer their phone, unless you get a train ticket there's f**k all going to happen... MadManMike
Treat this place like eBay - Don't buy from people that have bad or no feedback. It's simple.I would only buy off regular members that I see on the forum a lot. Everyone that gets ripped off seems to buy from users i've never heard of - ie new people.Asking for trouble imo. MadManMike
If someone didn't have feedback I wouldn't use them unless they lived in walking distance so I could get my money back.
Mark W
If they don't have references, just check out how well known they are on the forum. If you dealt wit ha well known member, chances are they won't f**k you around. Equally, if they're well known people will know how to get in touch with them/other people will know them. Simple as that, really?
Synergy
would it not be an idea to put a phone number bit in profile?so like name : michael macphersonphone number : 07879637719would that not be a bit useful? Mark W
The problem with that is that, at a guess, I'd say about 70% of people on here are probably dicks, and would end up prank calling anyone they fancied. Also, you could just ask for the number off whoever you were dealing with anyway?
anzo
Not to mention the NMC. The amount of people texting you sayin 'alr8 m8, u got ne bikes 4sale?do u wanna buy mine?saracen 26",3 grand if you intrsted.' That would piss me off.I might set up a postal service. You send me the money and parts and I exchange them at my end, no parts, return the money to the buyer. 5% claims on all sales plus 5 pound service charge...nice little earner
