Onzaallen
Hi, This may sound like a stupid question but why does most people that have disc brakes have them on the front? I thought that a disc would be better on the back as it would presumably be stronger than an hs33 therefor better on the back, I know that there would be worries of it getting bashed and broken but i just thought it would be better on the back. Thanks Allen. luccosleeps
some people use disks on the back aswell as the front all to do with personal preferance. i mean i wouldnt like a disk on the back because the pads are not fully secured and they move about just a tiny bit but enough to feel sketchy. i personally prefer a vee's as they give a very light, solid feel to them but thats just me. mini
Hi, my mate who used to ride trials had a V-brake on the front and a disk on the rear. It kept sliding out and just generally didn't hold. I don't have any idea why this was but it's certainly put me of using a disk for a rear brake. Although it might of just been the brake was needing new pads.Thanks. From Stuart Edited March 7, 2006 by mini
the judge
Most people have a disc on the front to give modulation. However, a magura just locks on and off and only allows a slight ammount of modulation. You don't really want too much modulation on the back as this would mean that when you landed on the back wheel the brake would slightly slip. Hope this helped Edited March 7, 2006 by the judge
ogre
I wouldn't like one, because the so quiet, there's something reasureing about that squeal you get with a magura when you hop around, that might be me though, i could see the benefeits to a rear disk though, but the idea of hitting it puts me off alot! gazasmith
to me having a disc on the back would be a worrie you already have the mech to hit so its a no no for me
DAB
I found where the rear brake is only dabbed on when you need it, it never gits a chance to heat up and bed in! the only exeption was the alloy disc on the megemo they worked like a bitch but they eat pads!! pad wobbly is always a worry + where the brake is being pulled back all the time it like to tear the mount off the bike!! thats why they tryed putting the mount in the rear stays (like the pace) put it still cracked... munch8987
Me and my mate had an arguement over this a few months back,he was running a foirmula before pro disc and me 05' maggys.Admitidly the rear disc gripped super.....but theres always the chance that that little slip could cause a nasty accident...like it did to him. There's nothing like the feel of a maggy with some plaz's on a med grind .Also it's down to what you feel is best for you,i personaly like maggy's front and rear...others disc front and so on hope this helpsben

shucksmith1
rear disk mounts never used to be strong enough to cope with the stress that the nature of trials braking techniuqe put on the mounts. thats why the new monty has very strange looking drop outs.cheers matt
