Prawny Baby
hey guysso much has changed on my bike over the last 2 months or so, that i figured its about time i had a change of cranks.... my RS7's have done me exceedingly well, but i fancy a change, and have just come across a Surley 15t rear sprocket so, im getting myself a set of screw on cranks, and an 18t front setup....question is which.do i get the Echo CNC cranks, with the std echo bash, or the echo CNC bash? both look nice to me!or how about a set of UCI tensiles with the 18t bash? or perhaps tensiles with an echo bash?whats the deal with the 'urban legend' tensile cranks? they appear better to me, with the flat face, but are a few quid cheaper! are they inferior cranks?im really not up to speed on screw on cranks, as ive used nothing but RS7's for the last 4 years, 2years on tapers, and 2 years on ISIS.any advice would be great!ThanksNick
Inspired Dave
whats the deal with the 'urban legend' tensile cranks? they appear better to me, with the flat face, but are a few quid cheaper! are they inferior cranks? The reason for that is the 'normal' UCI cranks come with a bashring included in the price Nick!My 2p:Echo: More colours, stiffer.Tensile: Lighter, replaceable pedal threads.Other than that, there's not much in it!Adam
Pauly
i would say not to get tensiles for sure ive had 3 pairs of them now due to cracking them and lookign at the level of your riding you would end up doing so to . currently i have a set of the new 06 echo cranks that are very very stiff and dont weigh much more than the tensiles but you dont get the option to buy pedal threads if they brake but as a whole the cranks look very neat and very strong as a pose to bashguards it depends how much you hit it if you hit it alot i would say the o5 one but if not get the new one.its up to you realy but im pretty sure you will kill the tensiles. TheMunn
In your position I would buy the urban legend or the tensile uci cranks, i've heard of a few echo cranks that stripped the threads off on the cog! But then, that could be down to the persons who fitted them etc.I do like the echo cranks, but for stock theres something about tensile cranks that makes them look and ride better. mat hudson
i heard of one where the spline tore off the crank for no reason top qual.
Joe_Elding
Do normal bashrings (echo etc.) fit on Tensiles?
mat hudson
aslong as you dont run an eno
Mark W
Yep, fair few cases of the Echo cranks stripping at one end or the other on OTN, usually pretty much straight after putting the cog/freewheel on. Someone tore the arse out the pedal threads too, but that's possibly 'cos they ran 'em loose. Anyway, the Urban Legends seem stronger, so why not, really? I dig the Tensile cranks, and with the burliness added in, why not, really... Normal bashrings should fit on the Tensiles, AFAIK. They have the splines for the UCI rings - not 100% if they're on the Urbans - but you can still bosh one on if you wished.
chrishayton
i had this situation not long ago, my tensiles cracked so i went for the echos. seem alright for cranks, tensiles i would say seems nicer quality(on the finish) but they both very stiff and weight around the same. the echos are prettier
Prawny Baby
AAAARrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1after an initial sway to the tensile urban legends, im now back to the echos..... after tarty said they were a bit 'overbuilt'that appealed to me, as im a fat b*****d, who breaks lots of things....also mildly concerned about the thin bash on the tensiles, and thinking perhaps the 8mm bash of the echo's is a better idea for me....i dont totally know if i like the look of either crank, as ive always been sworn to the almighty RS7, but i think its time for a change!next problem....Gear ratio? what do i need to run?ive been using 20/17 for the last few years, and would like to stick as close to it as i possibly can, just cant decide which way to go....22/19 1.157894736842105263157894736842122/18 1.222222222222222222222222222222220/18 1.1111111111111111111111111111111 20/17 1.176470588235294117647058823529420/16 1.2518/16 1.12518/15 1.217/15 1.133333333333333333333333333333317/14 1.214285714285714285714285714285716/14 1.1428571428571428571428571428571the 20 and 22t figures are just for referance, and i dont want to be running a 16t up front really......what do i go for? 18:15? 17:15? ones a little harder, ones a little easier
Hobnobs
Longer cranks and a harder gear? Would be the best way to get the same ratio.

It just is. Fact. Those mo'f**kin' Cousts run it, amongst others. Proof enough.Yeeeeeeeah.Oh, and people going "My mate snapped some Tensiles" - URBAN LEGENDS Not the ordinary ones. S'all good.Better warranty by a kazillion miles on the Tensiles anyway, so if you heff it up and snap the Urbans, you can get a new pair for half price. Not bad? UrbanLegend
Been very impressed with my Urban Legends. The quality is superb, and the UCI bash is suprisingly durable. I've been to bash plenty of times, it really can take some abuse!

andyroo
I've got the Zoo! cnc cranks and I have never had any problems with them. If your worried about pedal threads stripping, keep your pedals tight. You haven't had any problems i presume with the threads on the RS7's so there no reason for you to have problems with the Echo cnc's. They do look nice and they are plenty stiff. On the other hand, the tensiles have a pretty good reputation too, so I'd just go for the cheaper of the two!
