Onza Kieron
Right, due to my problems with fixing parts years back I'm going to start a lil faq series showing how to over come trials ''problems.''How to replace a Hope XC/Mono Axle....1). Remove wheel from bike and remove skewer..2). Remove cassette Lockring and cog/spacers/cassete(I only removed end spacers as my cog is jammed on.3). Remove the end cap from axle, use a flat bladed screw driver for easeing.4). Pull freehub body off carefully, pawls and springs will possibly go everywhere here so keep eyes peeled.5). Remove cassette washer and put in a safe place, you need this.6). Remove green/black seal with flat headed screwdriver then tip out remaining pawls and springs, again, don't loose them.7). Get very very large hammer and knock axle out, it needs abit of welly to get the bearings out.8). This is what your axle should look like, if it is'nt snapped.9). Remove the bearing from your old axle.10). Place new axle into hub the correct way round with the long skinny bit pointing out the drive side.11). Put new bearing ontop of axle and replace end cap(make sure you put the correct end cap on.12). Use silver end cap from drive side to space out over the axle and hammer away until you think it is fully in, it should'nt really damage it if you hammer too much.13). Replace all pawls and springs into the cassette block and put the large metal spacer i said to keep aside into the middle of the hub.14). Use the green/black seal to hold pawls and springs in place whilst you replace the freehub body back into shell.15). This is what it should look like when you have put the freehub body on.16). Replace the end cap and push down firmly.17). Refit all cogs/spacers/cassette and lock ring. You're done now I hope this helps, let me know what you think and like i say, i'll kepp making them for all your problems. Thanks, Kieron
Tony Harrison
Excellent. More people should be encouraged to fix their bikes themselves, and this sort of thing will help. Often with Hope hubs changing just the springs makes all the difference.

Onza Kieron
Because it was embarresed when I told it that it was going to be used to demonstrate, and because the ratchet ring was kinda screwed in the silver shell. Edit: Also can this be moved to FAQ please... Edited March 8, 2006 by onza kieron

flipkickbs
If anybody wants to post up an equally good guide on how to service hope mono's/xc's then that would be very appreciated. Ian

Backgren
When you tap the bearing off the axle you've got to make sure you hit it only on the inner steel ring or you'll ruin the bearing (it will go apart). Use something narrow to punch it with, preferably made out of a fairly soft metal like brass. Just to tell people if they wish to use the bearings again.I'm no bearing-pro, but from the experience of changing the driver bearings in Profile and similar jobs I've learnt some things. Someone who know exactly what sort of bearing used in a Hope might want to correct me?

IanI'm on the job haha, if I don't go out tomorrow night then i'll do it then, I'm also gonna do basic things like how to remove the BB, headset etc...Come to think of it, I think I should be given a bike maintainence/fix sorat mini forum, would be kind, anyway, I'll get to work on some more of these first, I think I'll do a wheel building one because that is asked quite regular...Thanks for the support everyone, and to Backgren, i missed that out because I did'nt have a simple way to explain that would'nt make people confused or worry when their bike was in bits...
