Advice On Helmets

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have just been browsing chainreactioncycles.com and have found a few helmets that have caught my eye, but I have no clue as to which ones are strong, lightweight or reliable. Well here are the ones I like.

661 XC Comp

Giro Indicator 2006

Giro Torero

MET Bad Boy

Giro Semi MX 2005

I am pretty short of money at the moment, with buying a bike and all, but I do want to remain safe so what one is the best value for money?

Your response will be appreciated

Strength isn't really an issue to be honest as they all have to pass a test to be sold, so none are going to break straight out. So it's basically just down to what looks good, and ventilation. For trials use I'd reccomend the Semi mx as it has more protection on the back/neck area and thats normally the most common place you would hit it. My mates using a giro indicator though which seems fine.

just have a look around your LBS, a helmet that fits well is more important than anything else...

i like the semi mx. it realy does look good when most helmets make u look lik a rite nob. plus i have herd some realy good things about it from my friends who free ride and come on we have all seen to stupid whipouts those free ride boys have. so if its good enough for them, then it should do a trials rider very well.

cheers matt

Out of that lot, I'd go for the semi-mx because of the protection on the back. (661 do a similar shaped one, so do Bell)

The few times I have cracked my head hard it's been slipping off a rail or something and and an XC style lid wouldn't have helped much at all in those situations. (just as well I have a pisspot really)

Don't buy online without trying it on in a bike shop first - you have to make sure the lid fits or its not gonna do you any good at all.

Hiiii....

The semi-mx & the indicator are both really good helmets in my opinion (Y)

I currently ride with an indicator that i got from CRC, and i love it :)

I'd go for the indicator

It's not comfortable as stock, But they include some nice blue pads that you can put inside, Work really well, and feel good too :)
