fathopper
I've had my T-Pro for about six months now and recently the cross over hose just split for no aparent reason. So I fixed that, and then yesterday the hose from the brake lever to the brake unit snapped. Why are they so weak? Has anyone else had the same problem? Has any one got any advise for it to stop happening?
Walleee
Your not telling the whole story, I very much doubt they snapped as you had the bike propped up against a wall.Perhaps you had dropped your bike or fallen on it and the hoses had got damaged in such a way that it took little force to split them. Perhaps something is catching on them and pulling them apart.
fathopper
The first time it happened I was just hopping on the back wheel and I just lost all pressure in my back brake, then the second time I went to hop off a kerb and it just failed
Walleee
In that case there is nothing you can do apart from buying braided cables which are a bit stronger but are still essentially plastic inside.Im sure that the hoes were damaged at some point though because in my experiance those hoses don't 'just break' I used my hosing as a carry strap on my old bike.......Edit: Yes, Your hoes are damaged..... mini
You could solve this problem by getting metal braided hoses they are expensive but if your snapping them that frequent then it will be worth it. Hope i've help you From Stuart
tipus
The exact same thing happened to me the other day.. I was gaping, and right before i landed, it snapped.. Edited March 6, 2006 by tipus
smelly joe
I break my crossover hose and hose that goes into the slaves all the time.Usually happens because my foot was catching on my hose when i hopped, there are a couple of methods i used to sort the problem:- i have wrapped tape around my hosing to give it a bit of reinforcment where needed as i cannot afford braided hose but i find that this does the job fine as i have not snapped my crossover in a long time.- also i have had to start watching the angle that my feet have been on the pedals to stop my heel hitting the hose and splitting it. Simpson
I got like an RB booster on the rear for about a fiver to stop me snapping the cross over when crank flipping on the rear wheeland have cable tied (if you dont have runners) all the way up the hosing, i also electrical taped by the slave hosing and the hosing exiting the lever, just because the hosing can bend and kink then it is weakened! so just do this next time and you might not get any problems in the future

CurtisRider
ive used both, and not just on my bikes, but others-its not just performance either, magura levers are piss poor in terms of feel-the lever blades are nasty(yes ive tried the cnc jobbies and the rb things are ok apart from alot of them leak)go and try a proper v brake and you will see mine have been virtually maintenance free, i barely have to pull them to get any lock, they have a nice light feeling so i dont get ridiculous amounts of arm pump, they are lighter(marginally) and are stupidly easy to set up
deanie-b
Differ as much as you like mate But most people who run vee brakes will tell you that a superb set-up is much easier to get than a magura set up well
Ewannnn
ive got steel hoses on both my front and back brake, never had any problems since i got them, it's cheaper in the long run in my opinion, unless your careful with plastic ones
Bolty
I had the exact same problem, what i did was buy a brake booster and get another cross over pipe and it seems to be working fine now Bolty ....

BEEN A MECHANIC FOR OVER 10 YEARS AND I HAVE USED CANTI'S, U-BAKES, V'S, DISCS (CABLE AND HYDRO) AND MAGURAS IT' A FACT THAT CABLES SNAP AT THE NIPPLE IN THE LEVER AND WERE THERE BOLTED ON THE ARM, THEY CAN PULL THROUGH THERE ASWELL. AND I MEAN ANY CABLE WILL FROM CHEAP TO GORTEX CABLES!!! I WAS ASK TO TRY XTR V'S ONCE TO SEE NOW GOOD THEY WERE AND I USED THEM FOR 2 WEEKS ON STREET, OFFROAD AND IN ONE COMP!!!! AND IN THAT TIME I TORE OUT 3 SLIDE IN PADS AND 2 NORMAL BOLT IN TYPE, BROKE 2 CABLES, 4 NOODLES, SNAPED AN ARM ON THE FRONT AND BENT A REAR.. I WILL SAY I TRYED THE AVID V'S AND THAY ARE GOOD!! BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THE CRUNCH I DON'T TRUST THEM!!!! THE MAGURAS ON MY BIKE AT THE MO HAVE BEEN ON THERE OVER 3 YEARS AND HAVE NOT BEEN TOUCHED EX FOR PAD CHANGE.... U MIGHT END UP BRAKING A FEW THING!!!!!!! AND WHEN U'VE SERVICED THOUSANDS OF BIKES FROM KIDS BIKES TO TOP PRO MODELS THEN YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO SLAG OFF MY MECHANICS... JUST BECAUSE YOU BRAKE SOMTHING DOSEN'T MEAN IT'S FITTED OR SET UP WRONG!!!! EVERYTHING WILL FAIL GIVEN TIME..... AND YES THAT INCLUDES MAGURAS..... THE DIFFRENCE IS MAGURAS FAIL WHEN THERE SET UP WRONG OR FROM IMPACT!!!!! V'S FAIL THE SAME BUT CAN ALSO FAIL FROM USE AND THE PRESSURE OF TRIALS... WHICH IS WHY I DON'T TRUST THEM!!!!!!IF U'V HAD 10 SET OF MAGURAS AND THEY ALL FELT SHIT!! CAN'T YOU SET THEM UP RIGHT???????
