Fork Bolt

Hi all,

Right then, the bolt for tightening up my forks wouldn't come loose or tighten up...initial thought was that the nut inside the fork was just turning. So I put a screwdriver up the fork to try and hold the nut but that didnt work.

After a while I gave up, put the bike upside down, held the handlebars and pulled on the fork...after a few horrible sounds the forks pulled off and nuts and bolts went everywhere.

So, after ruining all the nuts in my forks, what needs replacing and how do I do it? I will obviously need this but how does it fit, is it just the one nut I need because in my forks there were about 3.

Many thanks,

Matt.

So you've pulled the star nut out? If you have, just buy that (or any star nut from your local bike shop), and batter it in there with a hammer. You only need one. If you haven't got it out, and can't (and if it's knackered), just hit it down into the fork so it's out of the way.

If theres a halfords close to you just go buy one from there, a lot easier. Then just hammer it into your steerer. I normally do it by putting a big screw driver through the hole and then hammering it in with that.
